for the physiologists among us...
if testosterone is primarily a male hormone, and males have generally more body hair than women (naturally), then where does the "gear will make you bald" claim come from...wouldn't more testosterone in the body mean more hair? or is body-hair and head-hair different in some way?

elevated testosterone level also elevate dht levels. and dht attatches to the hair folicals on your head. and when this happens it kills the folical.

i dont know why it only attatches to folicals on the head. i'm with you on this, i think it should grow more hair on your head, however it doesnt.... but you can fight this with a little finasteride.

because the hair on the rest of your body does NOT have as many DHT receptores.. it is also a genetic trait..

Some men are more prone to this.. some men can do steroids for years and not see any hair loss.

If you are prone to male pattern bladness.. you're gonna go bald anyways.. roids will just speed up the process... Just use rogaine and it will slow it down.

Increased levels of DHT have been found in balding scalp compared to non balding scalp and androgen receptors have been demonstrated in hair follicle dermal papillae.

Intrafollicular over activity may be the result of local or systemic factors. Possible local factors include an increased number of androgen receptors, functional polymorphisms of the androgen receptor, increased local production of DHT, or reduced local degradation of DHT. Possible systemic factors are increased circulating androgens providing increased substrate for the conversion to DHT, or increased systemic production of DHT at distant sites such as the prostate gland.

Dihydrotestosterone binds the androgen receptor with approximately 5 times the avidity of testosterone and is more potent in its ability to cause downstream activation. 5 alpha reductase (5AR) catalyses the conversion of testosterone to DHT.
