Gaining strength while working on endurance?

Just wondering if this is POSSIBLE, I know its not a good idea but its something I must do. I am going to most likely be taking a physical endurance test for a job, Im hopefully going to be getting a job as a police officer. The test will include a 1.5 mile run that has to be done in 15min or less. I went out and ran today since Im not lifting this week to see if I could do that and I got it but it wasnt pretty. So needless to say I am going to have to at least half ass train for it. So what do you think I could do to gain or at least preserve my strength? The thing is I dont know when Ill have to take the physical test so Im not sure how long I have to train for it, most likely it will be a while, I will probably find out a week or two before hand, if I have 10 days to prepare Ill be ok but I need to get started here pretty soon just in case. What does everyone think? Eating a shit load is not a good idea either because I have to watch my height/weight/bodyfat ratio as well.
Any ideas are appreciated.

Oh yea I wont even ask about the police academy lol, that will be 16 weeks of running and maybe only one day per week to lift.

I think if you're seriously out of shape running wise, (No offense but 1.5 miles in 15 minutes is NOT HARD) you can add some good endurance quickly. Right now im average when it comes to weightlifting but i still can do 1.5 miles in 12 minutes without any extra training. How long did it take you? (BTW if you havent run in like years or something your endurance will climb EXTREMELY FAST.) My advice, is if weightlifting life is too detrimental to your police career just drop it until you're a cop, I mean, this isn't your entire life.

I havent ran in years, since I was in high school, that was four years ago. I ran 1.5 miles in 14 minutes and something. You are right, weightlifting is not life, but its not detrimental to running on the other hand either. The test is the most important thing to me but you also have no idea how much time, effort, or money Ive poured into this. I am just now getting strength back since a back injury in April and I fucking hate the idea of losing it all again, but if it happens it happens, my future career is more important at this time to me but dropping the weights completely is not an option.

well this is just my personality,(sorry about the back injury I had one too) But I'd focus on getting into EXCELLENT shape for the police exam to blow it away, then return to weightlifting. But if you feel you can't, try lowering the intensity.

I understand your personality, I have the same one with the exception of one thing lol, I cant stop something that is important to me for something else, I always find a way to do both. So you said I could add good endurance fast, whats your plan? Just curious, I need to get some good endurance fast. Like I said, I can do the 1.5 mile run in under 15min but like you said I would like to blow this thing away when I take it. I really want to gain strength right now but I am willing to sacrafice that for the good of the whole physical fitness test but I am not willing to give up lifting, see what Im saying? I just wanted to hear some ideas about maintaining or gaining if anyone had any? I didnt mean to sound like a dick in my post before, after I read it I was kinda thinking it sounded that way.

make sure u run EVERYDAY and go up to failure on all your sets, you'll get stronger and build endurance.

:p this is one bet that I'm gonna win getting to the 350lb bench first. :D just messin wit ya bro

LOL thanks for the horrible advice Cubanito. You are probably right about the 350 bench, but we will see. I am going to be starting to run on Monday but I am still going to start my new bench routine on Monday too. Hopefully the running wont hurt my gains too much.

my bad about the time i took to answer back, im not an endurance expert, but try finding a good pace to meet the requirement. 1 minutes to conver .15 a mile is exactly right, so try following that pace, then, next day rest a little, then day after try to run it a bit faster,. get GOOD running shoes too, that would help a lot, I mean, since you havem't run for a long time you will gain endurance quicky.

Na man I was just messin. I mean (keep this on the DL i'ma start doin cardio too, to try and lose some of my gut) But i mean I never mentioned the word cardio. So lets see who gets there first. I'ma try and max out in 3 weeks.
