Gaining muscle/losing fat

senate

New member
Ok I had a few questions. I am just starting to get into working out. I am quite overweight 230 6'1 with a high body fat %. Now if I start working out alot and adding muscle is that going to help me burn fat as well? Ive been told that you cant lose fat and gain muscle at the same time. If this is true how is the best way to go about losing my fat while still gaining the muscle I want. My ideal goal is to be 235 with a low body fat % and to be strong in all of my muscle regions. I knwo this will take time but what is the best method to go about this?

I think it's possible to do both, not at the exact same moment... but within a month, I think you can drop your fat and gain muscle... but if you want to gain as much muscle as possible, you gotta gain a little fat.. and if you want to lose a lot of fat, you probably won't gain much, if any, muscle.

I'd definitely start doing HIIT for cardio. Maybe try DC for weights, it's in the sticky at the top.

if your just starting i would begin with a good basic routine. four days a week of lifting along with 1hr cardio and maybe 1 additional hour of cardio on the weekend. as you improve you may feel that you can throw in some more cardio either another day of it or just a longer session. this isnt gospel, but whatever you do you should try to keep it basic at first until you see where you are at and make changes from there. more importantly - dont quit! good luck and keep us posted.

mon - chest/tri/cardio
tues - back/bi/cardio
wed - off
thurs - delts/traps/cardio
fri - legs/cardio
