I finished up my set of rack deads today, the room spinning as usual. I was just thinking "un..load..bar...so...i can...LEAVE"

Since I drew all of the blood from the "common sense" region of my brain to transfer to the "pull this fucking weight up" area, I began unloading the 45s. As I pulled off the third plate, I looked at the bar and thought, "hmm maybe I shouldn't be pulling these all off the same sid----CRASH" It was the loudest noise I ever heard at the gym, because all the rest of the 45s fell off one side, then counterbalanced to the remaining one on the right side, smacking the pins again, then that weight falling off, then the barbell coming back down and smacking the pins one more time.

Of course as luck would have it the only 2 others in the gym at the moment were total hotties clad in spandex. I tried to come up with a witty comment, "well at least I found the fastest way to unload the bar," was all I could come up with.

I've seen this... I usually take off my headphones and give a standing ovation to the people that have tilted it... others join in, of course, then the people that did it have to raise a hand and be like "thank you thank you" --- it's pretty funny... LOL

I get looked at like I am an idiot just because I am deadlifting! I would hate to think how I would get looked at if I did something like that!

Shades :fro:

the other day this lady comes up to me and asks me if I can take a 25lb plate off one side of the bench as she does it on the other side so it "doesnt all fall"...I tried to explain to her it wouldnt, but she didnt want to take any chances...heh-heh

I did that years ago after squatting. I stripped all the plates off one side, the bar immediately went flying in the other direction and actually buried itself in the wall, kinda funny after I got over the humiliation

lol. i did that once...but this was before i was lifting 315 myself. i had to unload the bar someone left (fag). well, i took all the weight of one side and crash! the bar even hit the wall mirror. good thing it didn't break! so yeah, 2 45's on one side are ok, 3 are not! :)

Holy crap!!!

Several weeks ago, I was performing a warmup on box squat with 225lbs. Let me just say that I always put the clamps on the bar. This time I forgot all about it. As I unracked the weight, and adjusted the bar to my traps, I felt the left end start sliding. All of a sudden, BOOM!!!!, then the right side BOOM!!! It was a violent motion!!! Remember, I was in a standing position. My damn upper back acted like a see saw. I was uninjured and didn't fall down, but I did suffer a minor lower back pull, which lasted only a day.

After the scary incident, I preceded to perform squats with 400lbs. I tried to play off the incident.

Thankfully, the gym was pretty empty and the people in there were people I know pretty well. One eyewitness asked me if I was OK, as the other thought that the damn ceiling was falling down.

I was really embarrased!!!:o

Really embarrased since I have been training for several years.

Important lesson. . .ALWAYS AND I MEAN ALWAYS. . . PUT THE CLAMPS ON THE BAR!!! CHECK BEFORE YOU PERFORM THE EXERCISE.

Thats my story.:)

Yesterday me and my partner were doing military presses, and decided to move over to a power rack from this bench with really narrow holders for the bar...
ANyways...
My buddy wasn't thinking and pulled a 45 off one side without me there to take the other one... same thing as you... bang bang boom... it was hilarious as there was like 20 people in the same room as us... lol....

I just cracked up as I carried the bench from one side of the gym to the power rack.... he looked pretty embarrased..

I always clamp the bar since I'm accident prone as it is. :D

Couple months ago some guy at my gym was doing military presses without clamps. He had too much weight, tilted, and a plate came flying off, barely missing a little old senior's head as she headed for the fuzzy dumbbells.

That wasn't just funny; it could've been disastrous.

I really have to agree with you there.

Even though I workout in my garage, so there's not much of a problem with being embarrassed, it doesn't take much to twist your back the wrong way and really injure yourself if plates shift and/or fall off the bar.
