FRUITS good for CUTTING??

Lililston said:
Hey guys,
what are some fruits that are good for a cutting diet??

Are mangos good?? :coffee:

Some fruits have a high GI (Glycemic Index) and are this not particualarly good for cutting. It raises cortisol levels which temporarly inhibits fat-burning. Search for "Glycemic Index Foods" or something like that in google.

My favorite lowest GI fruit is green grapes, which is not too bad.
Pears are pretty ok also but they suck.

Im sure mangos rank pretty high, especially ripe ones , probably not so when green(we have our mangos green with salt and pepper here in central america)

if you're cutting, the only fruits i'd eat are tomatoes.

yeah, i know... it sucks :)

deltree's got it right, though. limit fruit consumption to post-workout if at all.

If you are cutting, you should keep the fruit to a minimum. However, cutting should not be continual (as some people seem to think around here). If you are preparing for a show, or photo shoot, very small amounts of fruit can be incorporated into a cutting diet for the first part until you come to that wonderful last stretch of cutting where you probably want to take it out all together.

When you are not cutting and just maintaining, despite what some of the people on this board say, fruit is indeed a VERY important part of your diet and should not be neglected. Remember, our bodies have been eating fruit for about what now? 20,000, 100,000 years? 250,000 years? Whatever homo classification you use.

Our old buddy Spatts used to eat fruit on a regular basis, and she was a FOX! Also she could've probably kicked all our asses repeatedly!

Many people are afraid of fruits because of the high gi values relative to complex carbs such as rice and oatmeal, thinking they cause a glucose spike. As it turns out fruit acts differently than typical "sugared" carbs and produce less of a glucose 'hit' or glycaemic response than foods high in 'complex' carbohydrates (same goes for artificially sweetened yogurt btw). For me, I keep fruits in my diet whether cutting or maintaining, though I dont know what would happen if I were dieting for a contest. Specifically, I eat bananas, berries, apples, peaches, etc. Be careful as some fruits are actually high in fat.

I always have a big bowl of mixed fruit with my post workout shake and also add half a cup of blueberries to my morning oat bran cereal. It's fine with cutting.

They are good preworkout as they should raise energy levels and actually HELP fat burning by replenishing liver fructose levels. One peice is enough to acheive the desired results.

Post workout they are also good, as some of the nutrients (phytochemicals, potassium) should aid in recovery. I tend to enjoy a banana with my postworkout shake.

Even having a peice on non workout days wouldn't set you back to any real extent. Unless you are having 5-6 peices a day I see no reason why they cant be incorporated into the diet.

Mangoes are rich in sugar
