My wife and kids are very allergic to perfumes. My wife teaches and tells her students to not wear any perfume or she will send them out of the room. They do it anyway and she will get a whiff of it and starts having a reaction to it and sometimes has to come home and is usually in bed for a couple of days.

Anyway, here is an interesting article that was in our state newspaper:

Perfume allergy case brings $10M judgment

Associated Press

DETROIT - A jury awarded $10.6 million to a one-time radio host who was fired after complaining a co-worker's perfume made her sick.

Erin Weber said WYCD-FM fired her in 2001 after she complained she was allergic to another host's perfume. She said the station owner, Infinity Broadcasting Inc., discriminated against her for a disability - allergies - and retaliated after she filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Infinity said Weber was fired for not coming to work. The company said it had asked the other woman to stop wearing the perfume and modified Weber's schedule so she wouldn't come into contact with her.

A federal jury on Monday awarded Weber $7 million in punitive damages, $2 million for mental anguish and emotional distress and $1.6 million for past and future compensation.

Infinity spokeswoman Karen L. Mateo said the company planned to appeal.

well that seems like a pretty fair judgement to me
just imagine how much a bathroom attendant could get

I'm sure there are others out there that are allergic to perfumes but don't ever say anything.

This allergy didn't start until about 7-8 years ago when they started using something new in perfumes. Don't know what they started putting in it but whatever it is, I know several people just around here that have severe allergic reactions to it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see people suing perfume makers over these illnesses. It is just like cigarette smoke and people who don't smoke.

It really wipes my wife out when she gets a strong dose of the smell from others wearing it.

I wonder how long it will be before you wife starts to become allergic to you.
