For those who squat numerous times a week

Does anybody else have scar tissue building up on the area where you put the squat bar? Ever since I started the 5x5 last summer, I have a bump on the area where I put the squat bar, like built up scar tissue. Also its like the bar is ripping into my skin as there is a type of scab there that never has time to heal because of doing squats 2-3 times a week. Anybody else have these problems?

My muscles where the bar sits have definitely toughened up. The bump where your neck joins your body is now more subtle for me. :worried:

On a push-press experiment I discovered I can press more weight up than I could bring back down safely. I had a "tear" on my neck where the bar hit, and basically where the bar sits for squats, though slightly higher. After a month or 2 of it constantly breaking open, its finally healed over. Kinda painful for awhile though, and you'll have to keep wiping blood off the bar, but that just looks hardcore anyways!

I dunno, it sounds to me like you just don't have the bar resting optimally. Next time try pushing your chest out and bringing your shoulders together. Place the bar on your traps about midway between neck and shoulders, adjust it higher or lower until you find the most comfortable spot.

I had a nice circular patch of skin around my neck where the bar was leaning against when I started. This sorted itself out. Plus, I can't see it anyway, so who cares.

huge squat callous
it's called being a lifter
if you don't have one, you ain't liftin'
you don't put 600 lbs on your back every other day without either adaptation or death

Do you bring the push presses down behind the neck?

I always do mine from in front..

Nope not usually. I was really working on my behind the neck, jerk. Practicing dropping down and catching it at lockout. But, thats what I get for goofin' off, almost drop a bar on my head.

Good to know other people have them---I was thinking that maybe I was putting the bar on my back/neck somewhere it shouldn't be---It feels fine comfort wise---its just after every squat session that area is kind of ripped open a bit and then it scabs over and the same thing happens again next time I squat

really.. hmm.. never seem to have that problem.. the regular gym rats always use the pussy pads cuz they're afraid of PAIN.. gonna bitch slap them good!!

but seriousl tho.. i don't think i have callous on my neck and traps at all... hmm.. maybe i'm not squatting heavy enough!!

I don't have that callus problem, nor do I use the tampon..

I hold the bar in the groove made by my traps and rear delts.

It holds nice there. The only things I get are burst blood vessels sometimes.
