for those who have used HST

I'm planning on starting my first HST routine october 10th. I need to find my maxes and am kind of confused as to how to go about training for the next few weeks. Should my training be strictly finding maxes or should I continue to train with my normal split and work finding maxes into my split?

You want to find your maxes then take 9-14 days off before beginning your cycle. I'd take a week towards the end of September to test your maxes and do whatever you want until then.
 
I have done HST in the past.

Unless you are training specifically to achieve PR's, I would suggest lifting like normal, and then take a few days off, then do your max attempts.

Then I would take time off before starting the routine.

I myself am lifting HST style right up to max attempts so I can move in to the 5x5.
 
this is great advice guys. I found alot of info on the HST site. Do you think a week is enough time to find all the maxes? The way my program looks I need to find maxes for 14 movements. I was thinking of breaking it into two parts. Two days to find 15 RMs, 2 days to find 10 RMs etc. The reason for this is because I have movements that both work the same muscle group (i.e Squats and Leg Curls, Chins and Rows etc.) and I dont want to be fatigued from one excersise and short my max on another. Does this sound like a good idea or perhaps it shouldn't make too much of a difference?

I would test your maxes in the exact same fashion that you'll be doing your cycle. If you're training everything in 1 session 3x/week then test your maxes this way. Otherwise if you test your maxes in a broken up fashion you'll be screwed if your not training that way for the duration of the cycle. 15's on Monday, 10's on Wednesday, 5's on Friday.
