For strength I would suggest madcow's 5 x 5. It is only 3 days a week and people gain a lot of good strength on the program. Plus it teaches kids about good training, weight progression, etc. All you have to do is make sure they are using proper form.

Bill Starr 5x5 - Madcow Intermediate or Linear Version

At the highschool age, kids should be able to make gains all summer on this program, come back stronger and bigger, ready to kick ass. It includes core lifts like Squat, Deadlift, rows.

A renowned strength coach for football, Bill Starr, made a couple of routines that could be used quickly by a large group of people with exceptional results.

Read everything at this link: Bill Starr’s Strength Training Program: The Big Three | StrongLifts.com

I highly recommend power cleans for everybody if and only if they are taught correctly. The highschool I went to, most coaches didn't know jack about working out and it was just painful to look at their form. They racked in their hands, only used strength to heave it up and not power, bar away from body, etc....

Here's a modified version made by a renowned member of this site: Bill Starr 5x5 - Madcow Intermediate or Linear Version

For all of your beginners this is a great program to start them out on: Guide to Novice Barbell Training, aka the Official RIPPETOE-STARTING STRENGTH FAQ - Bodybuilding.com Forums

Don't add exercises. These routines are enough. If the student is able to make daily progress, put them on the beginner program until they can no longer make daily progress. Only then should you consider using a weekly progress routine.

I highly recommend you sit down for an hour or so and take the time to read through those three links (the beginner one being the longest I think...).

i agree with a billstar/madcow style routine, specially if they are gunna be running alot for practice

or a 4 day a week upper/lower split

I graduated last year from a public high school and I guarantee you I knew far more than every coach at my school about working out and nutrition. They would preach that squatting below parallel was bad for their knees and they muscled up power cleans and caught the very slow bar in their hands rather than on their shoulders.

gotcha... I just think its pretty lame that a Head Coach has to get his strength training programs from a message board (even a good one like Elite).

seriously how did this guy get hired w/no experience in HS football training??? you gotta feel sorry for the players that end up w/ a sh1tload of injuries :(

doesnt make me wonder about public schools 1 bit. way too many people scrutinze public education with very little knowledge as to what goes into it. you think because you went to school you have any clue how they hire a head fb coach?

c'mon tim- it depends on the school. if your running a high school FB program that sends guys to D-1 colleges to play, your not gonna hire some uneducated guy who doesnt know how to train his athletes...that just wont happen.

either the OP is in school w/a really, small, non-competitive program & they dont need (or cant afford) experience or he lied on his resume...sorry, but thats how it looks.

i totally agree. this cannot be a high powered program. i can see that. says nothing about the public school system. its the board of ed that decides these things.

This ain't my first rodeo. Played football since I was 4 years through college. First head job. Been under alot of different training programs. Just looking for info on a program other people have used that produced good results. I trained for years never done the 5x5. thats the kind of info I was looking for.
