you need to start i have only been doing em for 1 month and my back has filled out unimaginably.. deadlifts are also my new favorite workout by far.. ps. i love this forum..

i think it was arnold that said "Deadlifts are like squats for your back". If you ain't doing deads you ain't liftin!

i was planning on nvr doing em but am glad i did.. i have a fucking canal running down my back after only a month.. hope the progress stays the same..

When I started doing deadlifts I started seeing my bench going up. I love deads and won't do back without them.

Deadlifts are a staple in my back program and I have very thick spinal erectors. The only time I don't do them is when my lower back is sore from squatting. My back is my best bodypart, so I need to squat more than I need to deadlift. It's always amazing to me how many people will complain about back developement, but won't deadlift...

weights go up fast also. lookin to be doin over 500 for reps durng this cycle

My traps and rhomboids have come along nicely since. I love the feeling when I lay down to bench and the thickness from my back has noticeably increased.

Agreed. Deadlifts are great for developing your lower back muscles. Definatly should be a part of everyone's workout routines.

i deadlift 2-3 times a week. i like the thickness i get from them, i don't want to be built like a kite.

if you have bad knees, try using knee wraps. my knees used to hurt without them, but I use them and go heavy with no problems.

bad knees?

my knees suck but i can still do them....i just cant do them cause i have to keep my run time down for the military....squats slow me down....a couple more months ill be doing them again though, as u can see:D

my split is squats mon deads thurs.. i do sldl.. so it doesn't affect the legs as much as rldl.. at least i dont think it does.. but i'm sure my back will be sore till at least monday from dl's yesterday

why do squats affect your run time?

Bro, thats got to be the sweetest lookin ass I've ever seen :p

Good post. I credit deadlifts for my thick back. I did them from day one and my back & hamstrings are my best body parts. When I cut them out for a few months once, I lost a lot of thickness overall.

clearwater ;) i'm going there next weekend and staying on the beach for a few days.. can't wait..

try training them more frequently and dont train to failure, you will never get sore. also if you bottom out on squats (ass to ankles) with wraps your knees shouldnt bother you at all.

I have only rarely done deadlifts and I'm not hurting for back size, at least I don't think so.

could not agree more, some bro posted that your arms will get bigger from dead lifting. always dodged dead lifts, but when i read that i started a month ago, it i already showing in my back and arms. i love it, feel like an animal when doing it. now i know why the mr. o competitors swear by dead lifts

my favorite lift
-if you want to switch it up, or if it makes you sore, try using a trap bar (if your gym has one - most don't anymore)
-another good trick is stretching out your hip flexors beforehand, it helps me keep my butt down and pull with my back.

I hit them every week followed by heavy BB rows, stiff-legged dead's, DB deadlifts and 30 pullups and my back is my best bodypart.

screw the lat pulldowns and back extensions if you want to be a freak.

I just hate fucking deadlifting. They suck and they just tap every ounce of energy i have. Takes some serious balls to pull alot of weight.

I just switched to sumo style, I love them, fits my body type better I think. I'll probably go back to conventional at some point but I'm going to finish 5 x 5 with one style first.

This thread motivates me enough to add them to my next back workout...do you guys use gloves? My hands are torn the fuck up from heavy barbell shrugs...

i dont use gloves straps or belt for anything learned from mr needsize.. although he never said anything about using gloves.. i like my disgusting callouses..

How many of you use wrist-straps? I can deadlift quite a bit with straps, but if I don't use them, my grip gives out on me and really limits the amount I can pull.

I dont use gloves either, and the calouses get nasty, and after repping out a set of 10 with over 500lbs, they actually are pretty sore all night, but its all a part of the process
since I use chalk, gloves would mess up my grip anyway

I love deadlift also but they seem to hit my lower back hard, not my hams like I thought. My hams are much weaker than my glutes and my quads and I want to increase mass to them, but the DL seems to hit my back, not my hams.
any recoms???

sounds like maybe you are using a dual overhand grip? trying using an alternating grip.
