The best way to fight ignorance is not to be ignorant. Education and critical thinking are knowledge and the answer to ignorance. If people are racist, sexist, homophobic, ethnocentric, etc., we need to understand their faults and not get bogged down in biased thoughts and cynicism. We need to use knowledge as a guide for success. Knowledge then becomes a role model.
