Does anyone know how on earth American Football came to be called "Football"? There isn't really anything about the sport that warrants the game to be called Football, unless you conisider that it's played with a ball (Well, not even a ball when you think about it, though it's called a football I guess) by men who have feet. Fuck, they should have called American Football "soccer" instead, and then what americans call soccer could at least get a name that suits it.

From I've heard long time ago, the word came at Notre Dame University I think. There they were playing European Football, but someone changed the rules a little bit and it slowly became American football. I thin they wanted to include the use of the hands in the game....

i think american football's roots goes back to rugby, whos roots happen to come from soccer
