THE OLYMPIA WILL GO ON—FLEX WHEELER, LEE PRIEST WON’T!
Contrary to silly rumors that the IFBB, its athletes and fans are giving into terrorists, the Olympia Weekend at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on October 25-28 is gearing up to be the biggest “O” of all time.
However, a couple of Olympia perennials are out of the show. Flex Wheeler made it official just today that he will be retiring for good — and this time he means it (we think). Sporting one of the greatest physiques ever in the sport, Wheeler has won nearly every title possible in the IFBB, except Mr. Olympia, though he has finished runner-up at the show three times. According to sources, Wheeler cited health, his spiritual beliefs and his family as reasons for retiring from competitive bodybuilding.
Fellow pro Craig Titus, who trains at Gold’s Gym, Venice, told FLEXonline a few days ago that he thought Wheeler was going to skip the O. “I saw him last Tuesday [September 18] at the Firehouse Restaurant in Venice,” said Titus, “and he told me he is done with bodybuilding. He looked very relaxed and very happy to be with his wife Madeline. I cannot believe that he’s preparing for the Mr. O based on what I can see of his condition.”
Though Wheeler has pulled on his posing trunks for the last time -- probably -- he is determined to not disappear from the sport. He has expressed a desire to promote shows and even to become an IFBB judge! Needless to say, we’ll have much more on this story both online and in the print magazine in the near future.
PRIEST TAKES THE "O” OFF
Lee Priest, another qualifier for the contest, has decided to skip the Mr. Olympia this year. Priest told FLEXonline that it has nothing to do with the bacterial infection in his heart that he suffered earlier in the year.
“This definitely is not health related,” said the Awesome Aussie. “I just don’t have the means to put everything I have into the contest. If I can’t give it my all and ensure I’m going to be in the best shape possible, then I let myself down and my fans.”
Priest is between endorsement contracts and doesn’t feel he has the financial backing to really give it 100% this year, so he’s taking a breather. “I’ll be back next year for the Night Of Champions,” he vowed.
In the meantime, he will be in Las Vegas during the Olympia Weekend, where he’ll be hosting a seminar with former great Tom Platz.
LEVRONE IS IN!
Another pre-Olympia rumor floating around the soiled, smelly air of hardcore gyms is that Kevin Levrone is flaking out of the contest. Not so, says the Maryland Muscle Machine. “I’ll be there,” he said, matter-of-factly. “I don’t know where this crap starts.”
So that’s two out, one not out, bringing the Olympia roster to a crisp 21 competitors:

and one more little bit of fun news...
TITUS VERSUS KAMALI—ONE MORE TIME!
The ongoing battle between Craig Titus and King Kamali continued unabated at the Pittsburgh Pro Fitness show on Saturday, September 22. After Kamali concluded his scheduled guest-posing routine, a pumped-up Titus jumped onstage to duke it out with his “buddy.” We’ll let Titus give his version of what went on in the Steel City: “I have absolutely no idea how he [Kamali] can be ready for a show in five weeks based on what he looked like this past weekend," claims Craig. "He was fatter and more out of shape than I ever get in the offseason — and he’s only five weeks away from the Mr. O.
“After King’s encore I came up out of the audience and pointed at the crowd. I took my shirt off. I hit some poses," continued Titus. "Kamali kept walking away from me. I was ripped to the bone and he was sloppy fat, so he kept running away. I dropped my pants and he just walked off-stage. I grabbed the microphone and said: ‘This is what you look like when you’re five weeks out from the Olympia; that [pointing at Kamali] is what you look like when you’re 12 weeks out.’ The crowd roared and I walked off the stage.”
Aren’t they cute? One can only wonder what these two pals have planned for the Olympia.
