Finally back in the gym after back injury

Damn, last night was my first night back in the gym since June 24th. It felt great. I weighed in about 5 lbs. over from indulging in beer, it's amazing how scared doctors are to actually prescribe even mild pain killers for injuries. But if you are a junkie they get em like candy, and the serious shiz too.

At any rate I'm glad to be able to lift, not 100% but I'm gonna take it easy and work my way up. Sad part is it looks like it's gonna be a while before I can squat or dead lift.

glad to see you back... honestly, be glad they didnt give you any painkillers... for a while i was popping vicodins, norcos and even some stronger opiates for pain relief, and slowly it began to get out of control... needless to say, when i stopped cold turkey i had some pretty nasty withdrawls, 5 nights of insomnia was probably the works... and i wasnt even taking but one or two pills a day for about a month...

your doctor should be commended for the exact reasons moya stated above.

wish i could find a doctor like that who actually cares about me long term, most docs i've met just hand you drugs and say come back in 2 weeks for some more.

on a side note share your injury with the board, was it from the weightroom or was it something else?

I didn't want to be on the strongest opiate based ones. But they prescribed Ultram or Tramadol which are the same. It made my days tolerable at work. I stand all day and didn't miss a day even the day after it happened. It was an observation more so I guess. I hear about the epidemic and my doctors didn't even come close to that stuff.

I did post it when it happened. It sucked basically I was in the second to last week of my cycle and it was leg day. My back had been bothering me slightly for a day or two and usually it's no problem. I should have listened to my body but I worked out anyway. I did my full squat set fine no problems at all. I decided to try deads and on my warm up set of 225 I felt my back kind of tear right above my butt and to the left. I could barely walk out.

Any way, now this far out I'm finally able to walk and not have to put my hands on my knees and stretch it after about ten steps. I feel for people who have back problems now with a new set of eyes. It's really no joke. Constantly painful and you feel helpless. Simple things like putting on a pair of pants is a real task. Walking is a workout because of the muscle fatigue and stress on stabilizing your body. I don't ever want to go through that again.

Dam bro sorry to hear about the back injury. But you got it right man, gotta listen to your body always in the weight room. Just go slow and easy and you should be good. Best of luck to you bro!

Well shit bro, sorry about the back injury. I felt your pain for 2 weeks already after pinning my quad and had a reaction my muscles did not agree on or many other possibilities. MRI said I had Myositis, a possible muscle infection,..etc. Cut to the story, I got scripted Tramadol and Lortabs 7.5 at 500mgs each, I took a total of 2 at most at different times, I got nasty nausea and stopped taking them. Went to using Tylenol extra strength instead. My pain was "unbearably painful" in short. But , now I am at 85% and hope to be 100% by the end of the week after these miserable last two weeks. NEver again, will I pin my quads.
