Feel Better Soon Jenscat!

Get well soon! :)

I don't suppose now would be a good time to tell knee-slaper jokes huh.

Thanks all!!

FINALLY got home around 3:30pm!! They weren't going to let me leave!! Jeez!! They wanted me there until 6-8pm for some reason....I finally told them - Look I want to leave.....oh and they wouldn't let me eat...how am I supposed to take my meds with no food in my stomach??

Got there at 5:30am - sat around for a very short bit, then they prepped me pretty quickly (BP, temp, etc) took me up around 6:45am, hooked up my IV, asked me the same ? they had asked me 3x downstairs & gave me my Jaeger bomb via IV... OH and I got a Femoral nerve block in my right leg....right next to the femoral artery I now have a nice puncture wound & bruising....

Got wheeled into the OR, Dr. Axe walked in & asked how I was - I said more importantly "How are YOU??" Then *all of a sudden* I was OUT.....Woke up in recovery shivering with supreme cotton mouth, hung out there, got into my room upstairs where I just hung out till I asked to leave...never saw Axe again...my throat hurts & is scratchy from the tube in my mouth while I was under - and I have tape residue ALL over me....

I'm in an immobilizer with a drain and the electric cooler thingy - ice/water pack wrapped around my leg & it plugs in to circulate the ice water.....have a drain tube coming out my knee into a balloon-collection thing, which is pretty gross...

OH and I have 5 (yes FIVE) scrips.....3 pain + 1 antibiotic + 1 anti-inflammatory....

Leg block is just beginning to wear off.... :worried: Took 2 pain meds....

Been there done that. I had Ham String which hurt more than the f'n knee. Well, 1st couple days are the worst until the fluid comes out of the knee. Wondered about the drain, now wish my dr. had put one in. Oh well. It gets better quickly so best to ya.

Most important thing to remember when it comes to pain control is to take your pain meds before you even start feeling ANY discomfort, if you wait till you feel ANY discomfort the pain wall will hit you before any analgesic can save you.

This is the cooler thing that circulates the cold ice water - it has a pump down inside the cooler, pretty cool!

This is what the cooler looks like attached - the connection is under the immobilizer.....

where does that tube go?

The tube goes from the connection under the brace into the cooler - which plugs in & it circulates the water ....

I don't know what exactly is draining out of your leg into that baloon thingy, BUT, i'd pay someone $50 bucks to drink it. Bleh...

Oh, and with those boxers on, you almost gave us all a little show ;-)

Whiskey

Hope U heal fast and without complications, Jen. I find that cold water circulation thingy interesting...I didn't have anything like that when I had my knee surgery. It'll probably take awhile for that technology to make it's way up here (but then again, my knee surgery didn't cost me anything, so I shouldn't complain too much).

BTW does your leg feel like a ton of bricks?

So what did they do? any cartalidge torn/trimmed up? repaired ACL, new ACL? how were the other ligaments?

wow.. i can't imagine how hard it must be to pee for a woman with that thing on... I couldn't get upright for the first 3 days I had my surgery so I had to pee in one of the pee container thingys with the tilted top and I still pissed on myself a little... had to have the super hot nurse help me change my boxers... sooo embarassing but hey I had a morphine drip... god i loved that... hmm anyone wanna play some football or go sking?

Well it is a production - cuz I have to be unplugged from the water-cooler 1st, then stand up, let the pain & dizziness subside, grab my crutches & hobble to the bathroom.....so it takes a while.....gotta make sure I start it all before I REALLY have to go....

No my leg doesn't really feel like a ton of bricks, but it hurts - the 1 incision I can feel as it "pulls" when I get up or move & now it itches.....

I got a new ACL via a cadaver (allograft).....they found meniscus damage but it's started to heal on its own, so they left it alone.....other ligaments are fine.....bone bruise still healing....

sounds like it went well then. Do you have the vampire bite looking mark above your knee/lower quad where they pulled the wires through to yank the graft up into the hole? It took me a few days to figure out what it was from. I was thinking maybe they accidently stabbed me twice lol

Oh OK........well stop looking at me like that with your 1 orange freak eye will ya?? :freak:

wow.. they did a number on it :-)

I actually had a surgeon who just came from Las Vegas and LA that was supposed to be one of the best in the country, he moved to Iowa (where I had my surgery) to raise his kids and to get away from the stress, but brought along some wonderful techniques. All I had as far as wounds go was a 2.5 inch incision where your longest one is (below the knee). And 2 little holes that guide wires went through in my lower quad area. No extra incisions for scopes, he did it all threw that 2.5 inch incision which completely dumbfounds me. I saw the video of it and it was ABSOLUTELY amazing. My knee is also absolutely messed up naturally. Probably from birth. He

Tonite's Pic.........pretty damned swollen...........

also do you have any sensation below your kneecap? (i lost all mine in about a 9 square inch area)

cyrex said:
keep that cooler thingy on it!! :-)

you bending it much yet?

Yeah I've got it on......not bending it at all right now....moving it hurts pretty badly....haven't checked for loss of sensation yet......

no loss of sensation up just a little higher than the leg is there?

actually if I remember correctly, for the first 3 weeks after my surgery that was the last thing on my mind . . .

Well when I removed all the crap I have wrapped around my leg last nite (it all got wet in the shower) I scratched around the stitches area & could feel that.....so no loss of sensation that I'm aware of....

Should I be trying to bend my leg at all?? Cuz when I lift my leg up to move around, it HURTS a lot.... :worried:

No, that's why they gave you a knee brace. It will be three weeks before you can even try to bend it a little.

When are they pulling your stitches out?

No ;-) that's why I asked. sometimes you get into situations where it bends when you don't want it to with the brace off :-)

keep it on! hehe

SOOOO much nicer than having a cast though

Oh yeah, know what you mean.....Last night my dressings & stuff got wet in the shower so we had to take it all off & my leg moved in the wrong direction..... :bawling: Not good!!
