New member
i have read pages and pages on this forum but still dont know what to do. i am over weight, 6 feet and 235lbs. i read on ketosis and people say good, people say bad. then i read the iso-whatever, people say good people say bad. how about slim fast ?, most agree its crap. what should i do???? should i just plainly eat less and excersise more or what? please help. i am willing to stick to a program and go all the way. what is T3, hydroxicut, dnp, and other things. should i take any of these or anything else? please help

8 months back I was overweight. I found these forums and found out the main things I needed to do to loose fat...

1) Eat 6-7 small meals a day
2) Dont eat carbs for last 2 meals
3) Use a good protein powder... take in 50%p 30%c 20%f
4) Eat good fats like flax oil, peanut oil etc
5) go to the gym * (see below)
6) dont expect miracles over night!
7) drinks loads of water

* I started doing only heavy weights at the gym... hardly any cardio didnt really notice much fat loss in 1st first 2 months but developed some muscle (not much). Hit some Xenadrine after about 3 months of working out and have recently tried PPA and also CLEN. In 8 months I dropped from 15 stone (about 205lbs) to 12 stone 7 lbs (about 180lbs) .

Not a massive change but ive put on a few pounds of muscle too in this time.

Hey bro take it easy on him! I agree he must do a lot more research first, and should stay away from drugs for now. We all used to be newbies and asked many stupied questions or thinking about doing uneducated things....Give the bro a break...

I think i can clarify some things for you.

June 4th of this year, i weighed 283lbs. As of this morning, i weigh 222lbs. There seems to be a lot of bad mouthing around here about the Atkins diet, mainly, it seems, by people who:
1) Haven't researched it
2) Have never tried it
3) Are just repeating the same BS they've heard from other people ;)

I've managed to lower my blood pressure and cholesterol, and stabilize my blood sugar, and i'm still on Induction http://www.atkinsdiet.com/started_story.asp?startedID=11

On Ketosis. The problem is that people are talking about 2 seperate processes when refering to Ketosis!!
Ketosis is not is not is not harmful. Ketosis is simply a state that your body is in when it is releasing Ketones. Your body uses 2 fuel-delivery substances, Ketones are one, glucose is the other. Whenever your body sees fit to utilize your alternative metabolic fuel (your stored fat) the agents used are ketones.

NOW, Ketoacidosis is different!. This is seen in type 1 diabetics who can't produce insulin. Since being fat is the result of an over production of insulin, how can you be in Ketoacidosis? Oh yeah, you CAN'T ;)

You need to go out and buy Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution (get the revised and updated edition and read it front to cover, and then all over again. Its about 7 bucks in paper back, so you have nothing to loose, except weight.

Thinking that you have to eat low fat to loose weight is complete BS. There is no reason to live your life hungry for years to loose weight, only to gain it back after you go "off" of a low fat diet (only 3-5% of people who loose weight on a low fat diet don't gain it back)

To the people who say that i'm going to have a heart attack and am unhealthy by eating the Atkins way, i simply show them the notches on my belt, and my good cholesterol readings. The simple fact of the matter is that it takes fat to burn fat. It takes a large fat intake (ONLY if carb intake is LOW) in order to trigger your body to release the proper chemicals to break down stored fat.

I probably consume 300+ grams of fat a day. My body metabolizes all of it, plus about 1-2 lbs a week of stored fat. If your body is not storing fat, then it is not storing cholesterol, it is not harding your artieries, and you are not going to kill yourself.

This country did not start to become overweight until it started eating more refined sugar, and less natural fat products like real butter (not margirine), meats, cheeses, salad, green leafy vegtables, etc. We did not see heart disease, cancers, or diabeties until we started eating and drinking the CRAP that we do now. We are a health-aware society that has ADFA plastering us with the pyramid guide saying that we need 8-12 servings of grains, and what, 2-4 servings of fruit (talk about pure sugar there) a day, and look at that, we're getting more and more overweight.

Most average, everyday people should probably be consuming 70-120 grams of carbs a day, tops (hell, i'll never get that high). Go drink a gatorade and eat a potatoe, theres your carbs for the day.

Buy the book, read the book, and for once in your life enjoy yourself. I eat bacon and eggs for breakfast everyday, steak, chicken, fish (tuna rocks), salad, okra, broccoli, butter, mayo, etc, etc, everyday of my life. For 4 months i've enjoyed a stable blood sugar level, more energy than i've had since i was probably 12 (21 now), and when i'm hungry, guess what, I EAT. And why? because is takes fat (natural fats, not processed) to burn fat.

KWKsilver good posts...

but tha aktins diet for the rest of your life?? hmmm

You should slowly get off of it once you lose all of your bodyfat.

Lift weights.

Once your satisfied, u should probably turn to a diet consisting of

45% lean protein, 25% carbs (low glycemic, things like oatmeal), and 30% fat (healthy fats,,egg, flax, etc.)

That would be the Ultimate "HEATLHY diet".

Peace.

Well, what i mean is that your always on a variation of it.

Most people go off of a low fat diet. With Atkins, you slowly add carbs on until you find your sweet spot (don't gain, don't loose) usually around 40-100 grams a day. Since being overweight is a metabolic problem, i'll never get to a point in my life where 200 <insert number here> grams/carbs per day won't trigger an insuline response.

I just think that its a shame that so many people honestly believe that they have to eat low fat/high carbs and be miserable in order to loose weight. Atkin's is the first diet i've tried. Why? Simply because i new that i couldn't live with most "orthodox" diets, and it would be a waste of my time, and happiness.

:D You're welcome. BTW, I eat a 50/35/15 2000cal diet, or right around there. I aim for 250g Pro/day, 175g Carb/day, and about 35-40g fat per day.

As everyone would guess, I recommend a Ketonic diet for the overweight....you can read my CKD manual for more information...yet, if you know it's hard to handle, I would then recommend a simple 40/30/30...40%protein/30%carbs/30% fat...take a look at my CKD manual for the breakdown of food and daily calories.

Good words Mr. X

Compuatic - Heres one thing that you might want to keep in mind if you do one of these diets that i've learned the hard way. Watch your protein intake.

For a couple of weeks i was taking in to much protein (a LOT of tuna, love that stuff :D) and i knocked myself out of Ketosis. I went and did some research and found that your body uses the same chemicals to break down a protein, as it does a carb. Basically, to much protein (and to little fat) will inhibit your fat mobilizers. I backed off of the tuna (i was eating 3-4 cans a day w/ pork rinds as crackers :D) and BAM, back in ketosis i went.

Give it 2 weeks man, it really is a lot of fun, and i don't miss any of the foods i used to eat. Hell, my favorite dinner is Chicken Wings, a salad with crumbled bacon, yada yada. I know that i really seem to push all of these fatty meats, but the fact of the matter is that i eat more vegtables now than i used to. Find a good vitamin (i take Atkins Basic 3, Dieters Advantage, and Co-Enzyme Q10. You can find most of them at Wal-mart, or off of the atkins website.

Just remember, don't be afraid of fat. No carbs and no fat makes for some serious muscle break down, and you'll eat yourself into a heart attack.

Mr. X - What's a good form of exercise you recommend for people on a Keto diet? I haven't done much research in that area (bad, i know). I do about 30 minutes 2-3 times a week, of crunches, situps, basically cardio, and i mix some 15lb free weights as well (they're all i have ;) ) Any input?

hey im pretty much in the same situation as you 5"10 229 pounds
just keep asking questions thats the only way your gonna learn
keep your head up bro!!!

peace

these brothers know their shit!!! they will get you on the right path. like they said use the web and dig in deep for any scrap of info you can get those itsy bitsy fingertips on. then when you get some ideas share it with the guys. youll be good

I weighed 311 Dec 11 now I weigh 220

First of all this is how I lost it and I had tried the Adkins diet before and it hurt my kidneys, I lost some weight and gained it back. So being a firefighter I said the its time. I had never really ever lifted weights so I started a weight lifting program , I drink lots of water, I work out 2 days on 1 day off. I dont eat after 530. I used to have a cheat day, but I have not had one for 5 weeks now that stinks but I only am going to do this for 10 weeks. I do a lot of cardio. I do not eat before I go to the gym in the morning. Yep it has sucked a lot of times when everyone else around me was eating and drinking whatever. But I am getting close to my goal of 205. But good luck

Congrats on your success :D

Why was Atkin's hurting your kidney's? Do you have kidney problems? Its a shame you weren't able to stay on it due to heath reasons. Everyone that i've talked to that has been able to stay on it has loved it.

What i hate seeing are the people who go on for 2 weeks, then completely go back to an old way of eating without slowly "coming off", and end up weighing more than they did before :(

well I went on a ketogenic diet this past summer for cutting fat, and it worked out well. I'm 6'2" and I went from 230 in june to 185 now.

I have to say that I felt quite sluggish on the ketogenic diet, I never could have continued it for much longer. and I did do the cycle of 2 weeks on, 2 days off. for about 2 monts altogether.

I think one simple rule (this is just MY opinion) to follow to lose weight is to stay away from fat/carb combined foods. foods that have a 2-to-1 ratio of hi-glycemic carbs to fats will make you fat every time.

for example, a candy bar with 25g sugar/12g fat is an ideal food to get fat on. the 25g of sugar quickly meets all your energy needs, so the fat is almost always stored. french fries with 40g of hi-glycemic carbs & 20g of fat is another example.

so when you have carb meals during the day, make them lo-glycemic and lo-fat. for your other meals, protein/fat and protein/carb combined foods are ok. just no carb/fat combined foods. within reason of course...

Yep, the number 1 rule on a Ketogenic diet is to not eat foods high in fat and carbs since carbs aren't on the diet.
