Height 6’ 0”
Lifted on and off ( but not hard / intensely enough in hindsight ) from 1980 to 1996 focusing exclusively on mass building exercises ( have never tried to cut ). Got married in 96 and stopped working out entirely. Weighed 175 pounds from 1980 to 1986 ( exactly what the textbooks say a medium frame 72” male should weigh). In 86 left college for my first programming job ( started sitting on my ass instead of operating heavy equipment for a living.) My weight (fat) started going up at this point even though I was still lifting. When I quit working out in 96, I was 191 pounds.
One year ago this month I was at 250 pounds and went on Atkins. I joined World Gym about eight weeks ago and have my bench ( 245 for 3 at the top of a seven set pyramid ) and squat ( 335 for 2 at the top of a seven set pyramid ) higher than when I was working out in my 20’s.
I’m all-natural and have never used gear.
Current supplements :
Centrum Performance (I know, has Iron going to change)
Magnesium Asporotate
Creatine Monohydrate
Whey
Xenadrine EFX
ANSI Thermohydroxadrine (liquid)
(plan on adding glutamine, ala)
More background :
I discovered on Atkins that I have a yeast problem (Candida albicans.) I only lost about 1 to 2 pounds per week on the induction phase of Atkins, way below what was to be expected. When I went on the Atkins fat fast ( 1000 calories per day of mostly fat ) I lost 6 pounds per week which scared the hell out of me. I was afraid I was shedding too much lean mass with the fat so I got off Atkins and have been able to maintain my current weight by keeping overall calories low.
Yeast slows the metabolism big time, that’s why I take the metabolism enhancers listed above.
MY GOAL : increase lean mass from 160 to 170 and reduce BF to 8%
MY DILLIMEA
Should I :
1.) say to hell with the fat and slam on 10 pounds of lean mass as fast as I can and lose the fat later?
OR
2.) maintain my current lean mass, shed the fat down to my goal of 8% and then take make time adding the lean mass of 10 pounds in my goal?
I know it is impossible to gain lean mass and lose significant amounts of fat at the same time but how high do you guys take your BF percentage to gain lean mass?
My high BF percentage is / has been wearing on me mentally. I don’t want to lose my strength gains of the last eight weeks but sorely want to shed the excess fat.
Any input will be greatly appreciated.
