my reply is use your first pick on a running back. decent qb's are a dime a dozen, and after the first 4 running backs there is a BIG drop off.
1. Faulk

2. green, alexander, or holmes

3. tomlinson, williams, or martin

you need a 1 or 2 guy, if not, you might survive with one of the 3s.
why didn't you do our elite league??

I have enough work with this league FBI.

My draft strategy is RB.RB.WR. QB.

I have the 8th pick So I will get a decent pick on 2 top tier RBS.

You got Edge way too low and Ricky a little too high in my O. LaDanian is a wild card.

Check this out:

I got: Faulk, Williams, Edge, and Randy Moss with my first 4 picks!

I got Jerome Bettis in like the 13th round.

BTW that strategy is the way to go because while QBs tend to score more, there is a greater drop off between rounds for RBs and WRs than QBs.

Meaning, a 4th-round RB is way worse than a 1-st round RB. But a 4-th round QB isn't that much worse than a 1-st rounder.

It's true, because I read it on the gamer on ESPN.

Nobody in my draft picked Shane Matthews. I feel like he has hyooge upside potential. If he slays 'em against Phoenix I may have to pick him up off waivers....

JC

Edge is a big ? mark since he is coming back from and ACL.

LaDanian will do well mainly because there aren't any real defenses to stop him.

I can't believe you have Faulk, williams, edge and moss. Moss is a 1st round pick for sure. (Not a diss, just amazed).

Well I have read a couple of interviews with him and he sounds ready. --ok weak evidence at best

Also a little known fact is that his ACL tear was just partial, not whole. Much less traumatic and faster to recover than a wholly torn ACL.

Randy ratio all the way!

JC

Corey Dillon is a sleeper, and somebody you should be able to pick up with relative ease. The guy has prospered even with Cincinnati's meager o-line. Anyone who can rush for 1,000 yards in five straight seasons behind Cinc's line deserves a look. He would be a marquis running back in any other program.

Edgerrin James will either make or break you. If he comes back full swing, which only a few runners have done, he is the best running back in the league(along with Faulk). Michael Bennett is a guy who coul dhave a breakout year...

Head's up to everyone. Faulk will go down early this season. I'm thinking he's due an ACL tear. 2nd or 3rd week, for the remainder of the season. Wait and see.:D

where did you get that list from. its sucks my asshole.

tomlinson...... 3?!?!? give me a break. more like 7 or 8.

ahman green? 5? he's better than ricky williams.

Eddie George 16? no frigging way.

Priest holmes at 14? what a crock. he lit it up last year under Dick Vermeil. There's no reason that he won't reapeat those stats.

Deuce McAllister even with his injury history is better than 23. His numbers in the preseason are impressive.

here's the real list

Marshal
A Green
S Alexander
Ricky Williams
P Holmes
Curtis Martin (everybody sleeps on this guy and every year he produces)
C. Dillon
Tomlinson
A Thomas
E James
Deuce McAllister
Steven Davis (Probably better than this)

Not really trying to give you a hard time about the cowboys, but I think you have Emmitt Smith rated too high. I have a feeling that he won't get much more than the yards he needs for the all-time rushing record this year. I think he will have some injury problems and Hambric(sp?) will get some time too.

I also think you have Ricky Williams and Jerome Bettis rated too high..... Deuce McAllister and Garrison Hearst too low..... both those guys will be 1000 yard'ers easily

Take Emmitt Smith late in your draft. I think he is going to have a really good first half until he breaks the record. I like Ahman Green better than Tomlinson and Alexander. Eddie George should be higher than 16. Duce Staley should be a lot lower. he is too big of a risk at 12.

I am a higher on WR's in my drafts. I usually go WR, WR, RB, QB.

And he did that with a crap-ass OL too.

if you can get him late, pick up Clinton Portis from Denver. he could be good. also Trung Candidate is a good late round pickup in case Marshall goes down.

A late sleeeper maybe Portis Clinton from Denver or Faulk's back up Trung Canidate, I'd steer clear of the Sophmores and Holmes. I like James, Alexzander, Green, and Obviously Faulk. You can't beat the consistence of Hearst and Bettis, however injury prone. I don't see Ricky Williams at 2 though, maybe 7 or 8.

I think that Hearst will split time in SF, Denver will be running back by committee with three outstanding "RBs", Armstrong can play either FB or RB.

Priest's track record just makes me think he had a flash in the pan year. It happens a lot in the NFL.

I plan on avoiding the Panthers & Jags if I can. I would consider Jimmy Smith...maybe.

He will, but both will either gain a bunch of yards this season, or one will go down with an injury........ and the other will be a huge fantasy leader.

Next year Barlow will be a top 5 pick because he will be the feature back in SF. Then they'll probably win another SB will a few upgrades in the Def Backs.

I agree Wodin, SF is a couple of defensive players away from the big dance. The corners are young, but they will be strong. The could really use a physical , runplugging safety and a couple of upgrades at linebacker. I think Portis could be in for a big year...

St L has a better defense than San F.. and they are young, and they keep getting better....

True, they had a better "D" last season...... this season, we will have to see.

But, Aeneas Williams, their best defensive player, is far from young.

Most of STL Def talent is younger than San Fran.... On offense, well this needs no comparison.. The only way STL does not make it to the NFC championship game is via injury.. Though STL is incredible.. they can be stopped by a good defensive team, is SF their yet? I think they will split in conference.. STL cannot be stopped at home.

NB's list is right on. I have alexander and Green reversed but for the most part it's pretty accurate.

Hearst would be awesome if not for Barlow.

But the REAL questions are:

Should I start Gannon or Brooks (Hopefully he won't get a contract and he will be playing his ass off for free agent $)

And should I start Keyshawn or Jimmy Smith?

Wow!!! A legitimate WODIN thread.

I ended up with the FIRST pick in my draft and took Marshall Faulk.

Next pic was LaDanian Tomlinson (he went 16th overall).

I picked up Tiki Barber as well later in the draft..

Also Lamar smith.. who knows, he may get hot with Carolina.

I think your rankings have LaDanian too high. He is still unproven and has had a tendency to fumble a bit.. which is costly in my league. Also Shaun Alexander??? Maybe on a better offensive team he would be good..

Isn't Jamal Lewis coming back??

Why doesn't anyone pick up Jamal Anderson?

Can you believe that in my league someone used a 5th round pick to take TJ Ducket!!

Wodin.. where's that big boffo you are talking about? ;)

Hopefully old Keychain Johnson can find the end zone..

he was on my fantasy team last year and it was frustrating as hell.

wodin, in most fantasy drafts it depends on the rate teh guys are going... faulk is first, no matter what... ricky isnt a 2.. ahman green gets great receiving stats and that helps him out... alexander is a safe pick too, especially without watters. james jackson is garbage... edge will be there after your first pick.. if you can get culpepper, warner, mcnabb, garcia... do it with your first pick and then get a back when it snakes back to you.. otherwise the drop off for qb's is sharp and any starter will do ya fine.

remember, bennett and pittman will be around for a few rounds so wait on them..

faulk, green, williams, alexander, dillon, edge, tomlinson, curtis martin, holmes, eddie g, a train, bettis, deuce, davis, lewis, hearst, taylor, pittman,

its a crap shoot though.. if taylor is healthy all year then he is a star... edge healthy equals great pick, injured is worthless... this is a safe drafting style..

it also depends on receptions.. if your league gives a point for a catch then a duce staley steps up a bit, if not then ahman green slides down a little (not much).

also, if you are at 8 and have a chance for moss, owens, or harrison, dont pass it up.. and on the way back grab their qb if he is there... remember more backs produce than other positions...

Quit yer bitching lestat

ever heard of just responding to a thread because you're interested in what is being discussed with no ulterior motives?

and BTW he was saying that if you contradict him he will give you NEGATIVE karma

as far as keyshawn my reasoning was that he was solid last year but with Gruden the offensive mind at head coach he WILL find ways of using Keyshawn to get the bucs in the end zone.

Ok and as far as strategy--do you guys ever take the weather into account when picking starters?

I mean if you know there are showers or super cold weather predicted for a certain city that would favor running backs no?

I think this factored into Ahman Green's success.
JC

green will be great this year due to the fact he has to... otherwise gb is in trouble... weapons on the outside are fading fast... if glenn performs its open for green that much more.

and ya, i take it in to account with qb's big time...

I love Curtis Martin. Every year this guy produces not only on the ground but in the air. I truly believe the Jets will be strong this year, they have 3 quality receivers in Moss, Coles and Chrebet which to me opens up the running game because it keeps the defenses guessing.

Here's a couple of sleepers at the RB position...

Clinton Portis in Denver
Michael Pittman in TB
Michael Bennett in Minn.

I also think Fred Taylor is going to have a great season if he can stay healthy.

agreed.. thats why i was happy not to get favre.. i think he is now a question mark... can he trust these guys? or will they let him down???

I'd take my chances with favre. he'll thow a good amount of TD's to bubba franks. But those young WR's better get their receiving skills right or they're gonna break their fingers catching favres passes, or even worse, Favre will take their heads off.

i'm not expecting a 30 score year from him.. i'm thinking mid 20 at best... 23ish...

donovan will have 30...

whats the deal with your boys? is mathews in for good or is it just a matter of time? and what about that rosenfels dude... is he gonna get his shot? and why do i hate stephen davis so much? i fucking hate him... HATE!!! he is so unimpressive.

Mathews is gonna be the guy this year. that's not saying much. He hasn't been very impressive in his career. And his receiving corps isn't exactly stellar. Plus he gets hurt easily.

Rosenfelds had an awesome preseason...... so they traded him to Miami. I think he can be good if he gets a chance.

Any of you youngsters remember Barry Foster of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He broke an NFL record for consecutive 100 yard games until Barry Sanders broke it. He wasn't around for long because of injuries. I went to high school with him.
