Explaining DFT to HITers: Madcow, Blutwump, etc.

Hi Madcow and anyone else who knows their stuff,

I am a member of a HIT board and I have been trying to explain the merits of DFT to the other members. All I seem to get is the argument that it is only useful for building endurance and that it is useless for muscle building. I have explained the principles of specificity, the GAS, accomodation, overload, etc. a number of times but no one seems to listen. I feel like I am banging my head against a brick wall!

Their argument is that muscle gains are not stimulated by adaptation to stress, but rather by the rate at which one can deplete the energy levels from their muscles during training, hence the need for only one set.

There is one guy who weighs a lean 150lbs and claims that HIT has got him near to his genetic potential. He is a nice guy, but I can't seem to get him to understand that he has a lot of growing to do and that Heavy Duty doesn't appear to be giving him any results. He has been using it for 4 years.

Do you guys know what I can say to them to at least try and make them understand where I am coming from. I used HIT for 2 years with only minimal results, so I know these guys could do better if they opened up a bit to new ideas. I just feel that they could benefit from my experience and save a whole load of wasted time.

Or am I wasting my breath and should forget about it?

Cheers,

Mdm

I am sure that madcow will be able to help you open their eyes...
Blut wump is also good for this too

(sorry guys, I became a fan hehe)

You'd think that the fact that you and others have had (greater) success at reaching the ostensible goals of HIT with another method would at least get their attention. But if you've presented them with both the science and anecdotal evidence in favor of DFT, and they're either too fixated on HIT dogma or too dumb to notice, it's probably not worth any more of your time.

Here is how you explain ANYTHING to a HIT jedi

1) Go find a wall
2) Ensure wall is solid
3) Bang head against wall for 15 minutes

There. You just accomplished as much in those 15 minutes as you would accomplish by trying to explain reality to a HIT jedi.

they are brainwashed. Do NOT waste your time. Seriously, I have been down this road before. Do NOT. Just laugh at them and their smallness. Just make sure that everytime they say "I couldn't recover from that kind of workout" or "I am a hardgainer" or "I just don't have good genetics" that you put in bigass letters,

SOUNDS LIKE A PUSSY-ASS EXCUSE TO ME

they won't get the message, ever, but you'll feel better for a few minutes. ;)

Haha, you've made me laugh!

The sad thing is that I think you are right! I hate preaching to people, but I just thought that my experience could sway a few people into making better training choices and getting better results, or at least make them aware of the other options available. I have been through two years of ridiculously poor gains on a Heavy Duty protocol and I don't want others to think that it is the holy grail. I know there are many more people out there with the same experiences as me.

For the length of time some of these guys have been training their physiques are unbelieveably undeveloped. Some of them still think that they are closing in on their gentic potential though. I think I'm going to let it slide and forget about it! Too much stress!!

Cheers,

Mdm

I think this is one of madcow's hobby-horses: ridiculing the whole ethos of HIT Vs the World so I'll sit back and get my popcorn with the rest of you.

You already summed up the situation by mentioning the 150lb guy who has become convinced that he's reached his genetic potential. When someone closes their mind and pulls the shutters down there's not a lot of point in further discourse. You, as well as many on here, know from personal experience that what you're doing works. There comes a point over the 'Net when you have to assume that people either are deluding themselves or disbelieving what you say. What can you do but walk away?
