Everyone's thoughts on over training?

With the right amount of food and plenty of sleep I don't think its possible.. unless you only do chest and biceps everyday

That's what I thought bro but everyone seems to have a different opinion.

I think it's bs. Most people are undertrained. The problem is that most people under eat, don't get enough rest, and adapt to a certain training program and stop progressing because it isn't challenging enough.

Well this is just my experience.. but then again I've been shoveling food into my mouth and sleeping like a baby.. I have only heard about overtraining from guys who don't eat enough and do the same routine everyday expecting results..

Overtraining or overreaching are terms you hear thrown around sometimes. Even some experienced lifters still preach the old "everybody part nuked once a week" approach as a way of having enough time for recovery. Any real overtraining needs to be understood in context. Like said above, with good diet and rest your body can deal with alot. When I did the SL 5x5 for 14 weeks, I was squatting 3 times a week. My legs were always fried, but I gained some noticible fullness. Of course I was bagging 4500 calories a day to support this. I think the times that overtraining may come into play is with body parts that aren't growing; you hear this about tris sometimes. But when you look at the lifters split they have shoulders, followed by chest the next day, and tris the day after that. With no chance to recover, they may show some stregth gains but no size increase, which is a type of overtraining. Everyone is different, so it is important to monitor results in order to ensure maximum gains for your efforts.

yup i agree. overtraining 99% of guys on here have no clue what that really is and have never even come close to it.

our bodies adapt. put a computer nerd who never touched a weight in his life and let him do exactly what I do in the weight room, hell let him do 50% less even and he will not be able to walk the next day. that would be considered 'overtraining' to him because he never lifted before so his body had no clue what the fuck just happened. as you lift over time your body will adapt and you will be able to do heavier weight for more reps ..

the way you know you are over doing things is when you start noticing inflammation. this is the body sending out a signal that something is hurt. when I did 10 sets of 15 pullups twice in the same week guess what happened? this in combination with playing tennis and i i started getting inflammation in my elbows.. so i started doing only 3 sets of 15 pullups instead and my inflammation was gone. now someone who is stupid and wreckless would have ignored the inflammation (i was told this in the gym but some guys to just ignore it) and kept pounding away. this is NOT the way it should be done.. always listen to your body and you will NEVER overtrain

the whole overtraining thing was invented by someone who is a weekend warrior who works out 2 or 3 times a week. yeah if you only train 2 or 3 times per week and barely break a sweat you are gonna have difficulty training 6X per week and busting your ass for an hour each time. a buddy of mine just finished the police academy and I took him to the gym with me and the guy did exactly what i did and then the next day he couldn't walk or even lift his arms. its all about adapting people. if you are a newb then don't try and copy the dude like me at the gym who has been doing it for 15+ years.. if you have been lifting a while then consider upping your game to get you over barriers

hope i answered your question.. remember before I was a bodybuilder/lifter whatever.. i was a scientist first. understanding the science of the body is crucial and the #1 thing that people don't follow is SLEEP as joe said above. sleeping is crucial. if you go out till 2 am (i am guilty of this once in a while too) that can effect you for days.. getting a solid 8 hours of excellent sleep is money in the bank. and also don't stay up late.. try and go to sleep at 10ish and wake up around 7. that is perfect.. don't wake up early either thats just as bad as staying out late.

i agree with almost what everyone have already said.. But over training can happen if you're natural, the body will get burnt out and you start feeling weak i have experienced this myself, however on steroid i do not believe in overtraining at all if youre diet is in check and getting plenty of rest, im on 90mg anavar, and i been working out everyday 7 days a week, 5 times a week weights and cardio and abs everyday atleast minimum of 1.5 hour of exercise daily, and on my lifting days im at the gym 2-3 hours with cardio and abs thrown in there, and im making gains everyday, getting stronger bigger leaner day by day., been doing this for 3 straight month with no off days.

Just my opinion
