I will be attending my first animal rights protest downtown here in Chicago at City Hall. I'm not sure if many of you are familiar with Foie Gras but it is a delicacy that has been banned here in Chicago because of the animal abuse/torture involved with it. It really is atrocious.. I did a research paper on this awhile ago and I was horrified after my hours of research, what goes on.

Anyway, Mayor Daley will be at City Hall this Wed signing a document that will try and repeal the ban. Him and other politicians... many are trying to stop him...

I am really excited!! If you see me on the news, let me know! lol.

Event Description: Mayor Daley announced that the vote to repeal the Foie Gras Ban will be completed at the next City Council Meeting on Wed., May 23 just as Sheila O'Grady, the mayor's former chief-of-staff, became the new Executive Director of the Illinois Restaurant Association which is pushing for repeal. Alderman Edward Burke has announced his intention to call for a City Council vote on to repeal Chicago's ban on the sale of foie gras. (Foie Gras is the enlarged liver of a goose or duck served as an expensive delicacy. The animals' livers are enlarged by force feeding them with 18 inch metal rods and causes ruptured internal organs or asphyxiation when food becomes impacted in their throats and digestive systems. See www.banfoiegras.org for more details. Foie Gras is so cruel that 13 European countries and the state of California have enacted similar bans. According to a 2004 Zogby poll, 77% of Americans favor the ban of Foie Gras because of its cruelty.)

Alderman Joe Moore, sponsor of the Foie Gras Ban, has urged people in Chicago's animal protection community to be vocal at next Wednesday's City Council Meeting. Alderman Moore risked his re-election on banning Foie Gras because he feels that "preventing the sale of a food product derived from the torture of innocent animals are precisely the sort of issues that should be tackled by legislative bodies." The idea that legislative bodies can act to create a humane world for all animals (including humans) is profound and is why national animal protection organizations (such as HSUS, PETA, and Farm Sanctuary) and industries that profit by harming animals will be closely watching what happens in Chicago next Wednesday, May 23rd.

I'm urging you, fellow Chicago Animal Rights Meetup members to join me and many other local activists, in a Demonstration and Press Conference at City Hall on Wednesday at 9AM. We want to have at least 200 activists there holding signs (which we will provide), occupying city hall chambers, and chanting in support of the Ban in the City Hall Lobby. Please show up and bring a friend (or two). I realize that this may mean taking a half-day off or even a full-day off from work, but if you attend one animal protection effort all year, THIS IS THE ONE!

We will also lobby Aldermen in person and ask that you call, or better yet, visit your alderman (dial 311 if you don't know who that is). Most importantly, please plan to attend next Wednesday, 5/23, at 9AM at City Hall (121 N. LaSalle).

Read up on what happens to these animals ... it's sick. Not to mention you are eating FATTY LIVER. Ick. They suffer so much. If anyone say what happens to these animals, I think you'd change your mind. It's really sad and there is no need for it.. plus America is fat enough.. they don't need to be consuming fatty liver, too. LOL. ;)

Go check that site out. You aren't really understanding this.. they are fed MANY times their weight.. do you know what happens to body organs if that occurs??

http://www.goveg.com/feat/foie/

Read up. Then decide. Watch the video, then decide. :) Just saying.. it doesn't hurt to know. The minute I saw what they do to cows/pigs, I stopped eating them.

Screw that, most of the world is very ignorant and really don't understand what is worth fighting for. I'll bang on many for fighting for stupid shit, just cuz someone has drive doesn't make them correct all the time.

LOL. Ok. Post a pic up if you are so good looking. And one that isn't photoshopped, either.

I find that people who have high self esteems and really DO think they are good looking, don't put others looks down. You failed that one, my friend.

P.S. Yes, I post in threads when I'm agreeing on the subject or have something to contribute - you.... did not.

Post pic. Thanks.

Ok, but I wasn't thinking about those people - I was thinking about those who actually make a difference. This has made a difference because Chicago banned Foie Gras... it's the Restaurant Associations that are trying to bring it back in.. 14 countries have banned this (including some of the largest producing of Foie Gras) as well as a bunch of states...

I like the fact that it is banned. And I am happy to go. :)

#1. Failed. I know your type - you aren't bad looking but you aren't great looking and you don't want to be judged and you are sensitive to what others think. See, if you are so good looking as you say, you don't really need to prove anything therefore posting a picture of yourself, doesn't fall under the category of "proving," something.. it's just showing that you are totally comfortable with yourself and don't care what others think..

Because you think you are "proving yourself," you aren't posting one, which leads me to think you are full of shit. Just sayin' :)

Anyway back to me animal rights thingy...

Well, if that wasn't sarcastic (sometimes I can't tell on here...)..

I am VERY happy about it. Many judges were horrified by what went on. I remember reading a quote from one in Israel and he was embarassed that his country actual practiced such cruelty in this day and age.

lolol

What a joke!

We should also ban steaks because of the poor treatment of cows
Ban milk
Ban chicken & turkeys. See how their fucked up life is in those cages
Ban bacon
etc

I wouldn't care if they banned the slaughtering of cows. This is just the first step. Go watch the videos... and if they banned chicken/turkey, I'd be happy because then I'd have to become a vegetarian.. it's hard but I want to do it (I eat chicken/turkey but not often).

Hey what do you think about the seat belt laws, property laws, and all the other laws that have been passed for idiots who cannot do things for themselves and be moral about certain thing? This culture of control? Geeze.. this is one reason I am embarassed to be human sometimes.. because people think 'Just because they allow this, means they should allow EVERYTHING." Do you see what these animals go through? My God...

Should we eat whale and dolphin, too? Dog and cat? Many people would say what you're saying...

Yep, we sure are! And you'll always hear that arguement about how humans rule cause we have intelligence. Yeah we're so intelligent we are killing our planet. We so smart!

If everyone thought that way about "minor issues," they would be major by now because one thing leads to the next...

Ever taken a law class? What has this society of control lead to? Why are the police more powerful today than ever before... etc... etc...

Those are "minor" examples. :) Just saying... I believe in fighting for those who cannot fight for themselves... and I cannot save the world but I can contribute in any way that I choose to.

Or you will hear, "she's worried about this when there is other shit going on.."

LOL. And then you don't see THOSE people doing ANYTHING for "the other shit going on..."

We choose individually for what we want to fight for.. and I choose this. And down the road I will do so much more, as well.

For the most part humans discust me (there are the few select who will want help and all that and try to change their ways and blah blah and that's fine) I want to help them but overall, if you look at the entire world as a whole.... yeah - I think you get my point. Did the person that you just walked pass on the street smile at you today? Probably not...

if you want to make yourself useful regarding animals, you'd rather get your priorities straight

Whales are almost extinct
So are white rhino, snow leopard, etc

Over time your communication skills will improve and you'll be able to enlighten concepts to those that have a more difficult time comprehending. That's when you're truely skilled.

I love how so many people (no matter what they think) choose to bitch and bitch at someone for ACTUALLY fighting for something and pursuing a thought of interest.

If someone said they were fighting for anti dog chaining laws, I'd say go for it. Awesome. If I disagreed.. okay - but I wouldn't be all nasty.

Too many people sit on their asses and don't do anything.. I like taking action and whether or not that results in change, at least i tried.

Period.

8th grade level? That's cute. Force-feeding a duck doesn't bother me, sorry. You can attempt to make me feel intellectually inferior by spouting your tree-hugging rhetoric about animal rights, but I'm not buying. For the last few months, I've quietly surfed C&C in my spare time to get a chuckle out of some of the people here. Initially, I didn't understand why people here talked so much shit about you. Now, it's painfully clear. You seem to blast everyone who doesn't agree with you when you take the moral high-road. I respect your opinions, but sometimes I don't see things the way you do. I fail to see how fattening a ducks' liver compares to a "society of control." But, I'm sure you'll entertain us all with an explanation...

Let's look back to the past. We banned whale (it's stayed that way) and dolphin( it's stayed that way) and you cannot eat any exotic creature or use their furr (although of course, there are black markets), CA passed an anti dog chaining law which other states are now considering, there are police for animals, and animal rights has become increasingly popular in the last decade and MUCH has changed because of it. Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfigger ban all furr in their clothing lines which lead other clothing lines to copy them... other countries then tend to tag on (after some time).. it's a chain.. so every little bit counts, my friend. :)

I'm excited so whatever...

Njjuice was just reminding you that you are an animal rights activist, but you dont seem bothered by your SO wearing leather (which means animals were killed ONlY to make that jacket), that is, if he really wears leather jacket. It has to do with this thread cuz its about animal rights thing that you are about to attend.

P.S. Why is he jealous? Last time I heard of him, he has pretty good situated life

P.S.S. I love getting my nose in other peoples business

Oh I know. I am not a crazy tree hugging activist like some people on here are saying. They make a judgment by one statement I make. lol. It's the first time I've done anything like this. If it's sane for the most part, I will do it.

lol...that shows I am into leather :lmao:

I ment more of the mink kind of fur coats and jackets or whatever. I dont think anyone eats them.

Btw, I hate how they treat the cows to get milk. From what I've seen, they impregnate them every so often so they keep on having milk (and I thought cows have milk regardless???? seriously confused here) and then they remove the calf from her. Apparently, the cow and her calf have a very strong bond.......how true is this?

I believe they do this because the cow doesn't produce the milk quick enough.. so anything to get more milk in a short time they will do. And yes, cows have an extremely large bond with their calves as do horses...

:(

Why don't you push your logic to its conclusion?

Stop eating/using animal products!
