Events for North America's Strongest Man released

b fold the truth

Elite Strongman
Platinum
This is Nationals for the North America Strongman Society. The winner of this contest (overall heavyweight) earns a pro card. This contest could mean a lot for me...last year I finished 2nd in the 300 pound weight class and 6th in the overall heavies. Since then, several have retired, moved to the pros, etc... Several new guys have entered the rankings too...

Here are the events...any training ideas are appreciated.

Yoke and Flip 50ft each. 90 seconds
lights 600lb yoke 600lb tire, heavies 700lb yoke 600lb tire

Conan Wheel, 90 seconds
lights 450, heavies 550

Apollon Axle for reps (2" thick, non rotating bar), 60 seconds
lights 200, heavies 240

Deadlift for reps, 60 seconds
lights 400, heavies 500

Load and Drag 90 seconds
Load two kegs onto a platform (40 inches), 50ft each and drag a sled 50 ft to the finish.
lights 200lb kegs, 400lb sled, heavies 250 kegs , 500lb sled.

Events are subject to change!

Thanks...

The apollon's axle is a 2" thick bar, that does not rotate at all. Very tough. Cleaning this thing stinks!!!!!

I hate the sled drag...but will do it. 500 shouldn't be too tough on pavement...

I wish I could help you out with ideas, but you are so far out of my league on this stuff it would be like telling Michael Jordan how to do a jump shot.

In looking at your list there, I was pleased to see that I might be able to do one rep on at least a couple of the events. Of course you guys will be doing 10-15 reps, and probably running out of time before you run out of reps, but that is why I don't try and run with you big boys.

I wish you the best of luck. That Appolon axle sounds like a bear. Good time to have big hands.

Thanks...

I hardly slept last night because I was thinking about what I want with these weights. I'd like to do the apollon's axle for 15 reps and the 500 pound deadlift for 10. We get 60 seconds so we can stop after a few reps, back off, and pull a few more. Someone got 20 with 440 last week at a contest...which I think I could get close to. I did 405 for 18 a few months back and my deadlift has gone up since (not because of).

The Appolon's axle is a bear. Thick and non-rotating. If I can clean it...I can press it though.

I start working on these this weekend!!!

And when one remembers that all barbells used to be like this, it makes the lifts of old-timers like John Davis even more impressive.

Oddly enough, the only event I would like is the dragging.

I actually do not like to deadlift. Especially for reps.
