All,

How are you all doing? I hope all is well back home. Things were looking like they were about to slow down recently, but the TB just don't learn. We have run some missions since the last updates and they have not been without excitement. We identified some guys carrying guns around from time to time and when they are out of range to kill we will just track them and watch where they go. We took our AUP (Afghan Uniformed Police) which is our partner force here to go and search the compounds where we have seen them frequent. On one such occasion we had guys dismount from the trucks and walk into the village to search said compounds. After they had finished searching and were making their way back to the trucks we started taking fire from the East and West. It was a nice little cross-fire for the enemy that we quickly squashed. I don't know if I have mentioned this before but I have a mini-gun mounted on top of my truck that spits about 60 rounds of 7.62mm fury per second. In addition to that little beauty I have a M-240 machine gun, mortar, grenade launcher, sniper rifle, and other assorted fun items to deal with bad guys. So, we immediately returned fire with our mini-gun and I jumped out with the mortar. While my senior weapons guys was laying down a wall of lead with the mini I was dropping mortar rounds on the would be ambushers. While ***** was observing 2 guys with guns and about to fire on them, one of my mortar rounds air-bursted directly above them. The end result was a nice loud boom, a cloud of dust, and no more bad guys. After all that fun we maneuvered around and exchange rounds with the bad guys some more (they just don't learn). After we had enough of chasing the rabbit we headed back to our DSP to eat some chow and celebrate. On the way back the TB took a couple of cheap shots at my truck, specifically **** and myself. The first one passed directly between he and I and we quickly ducked as a few more pinged off the truck. We poked our heads up enough to lay down an immense amount of machine gun and mini-gun fire in their direction. Must've worked beacause we didn't get anymore cheap shots after that.

Another mission we went on the TB used their same tricks on us and shot at us as we were headed home. This really pissed off the AUP who quickly turned into the village we were passing and chased them through the village. Not good, this is a tactic that the enemy will use to lure you into a better postion for them to fight you. We did the smart thing and pulled security on the perimeter of the village as the AUP lit up this village like WWII. We shot some guys who were trying to leave on motorcycles that pulled off to take pop-shots at us. The TB shot a couple of RPGs at us (luckily these guys couldn't shoot for shit) and they landed safely away from us. After the AUP had their fun in the village the came back out and we returned home. Enough fun for the day.

Other than the bits of fun outside the wire we do whatever we can to stay sane when we are at our base. We have a Fantasy Football league going on that is getting pretty intense already and it's only week 1. I started a workout program with another guy on my team who is also a personal trainer back home so he has been crushing me in the gym on the regular. My goal is to return home in great shape and ready to go to dive school. I am trying to take full advantage of the fact that we are at 7500 feet elevation here and hopefully sea level will be a cake walk when I get home. The practical jokes have kind of slacked off too since we have stayed a little bit busy. We did throw some CS gas into a bunch of our dudes who were working on the camp though. I got the whole thing on camera and it was hilarious; of course the guys on the recieving end didn't think so. If anyone has any other good pracitcal joke ideas please send them right away. We are always looking for fresh ideas.

That's all the news I have for you guys right now. Take care and I will talk to you all soon.

Update #2
All,

Well.....things are finally slowing down it seems. As our time here at our DSP comes to an end we are slowing down our operations ever so slightly to focus on inventory and packing. However, that does not mean that we have shifted our focus away from killing bad guys. We ran an operation the other day where we went looking for a cache of weapons and we found some suspect items. We decided to compile them and blow them up. After we blew up the cache we ran a deception operation and sent the vehicles back to the base and left some guys behind. About 15 minutes after the vehicles left a bad guy with an AK walked out of the village and sat down right in our line of sight. Needless to say he got smoked fast!! After we killed him about 8-9 other guys walked out of the village to find their dead buddy. By this time it was well past dark and we were watching through our night vision. We couldn't see any weapons on the group of guys that walked out though. At one point 7-8 of those individuals walked within 20 meters of where I was...my heart was beating out of my chest. I had my laser trained on the first guys head just waiting to see a weapon and I was going to smoke all of them. Lucky for them, they weren't carrying any weapons. It was clear that all of those guys were bad but the ROE (rules of engagement) prevent us from shooting unarmed people...lucky them.

We have done a few other missions since my last email also. And then there's the rockets....I hate those fucking rockets!! We got another one today and I was standing on one of the guard towers when they fired it. I saw the poof of dust then heard that familiar freight train sound. Naturally, I quickly hit the ground and made myself as small of a target as possible. I heard the BOOM then stood up relieved that I was unharmed. Apparently, the motor from the rocket flew directly over my head and landed about 20 meters past where I was. That is one big aspect of this place that I will definitely not miss!! With a little bit of luck and the fact that the TB on the whole can't shoot for shit, nobody was injured and there was no damage to our base.

Every now and again I get some time to myself to day-dream about the small things that I once took for granted. Fast food, margaritas on the beach, the ocean, RAIN, not getting shot at, spending time with your family and friends, sitting on the couch on a Sunday afternoon watching football and drinking a cold beer, and of course driving down the road in my truck without worrying about the road exploding underneath you. I can't wait to be home sharing a beer and a story with you all. If I haven't mentioned it by now we are leaving this country in October. Even better news than that is I am leaving this DSP site I am at now in about 20 days!!

On another note, one of our buddies from another SF team has been put in for the Medal of Honor for his actions during the FOB attack that I told you all about. The story is actually quite amazing to hear and even more amazing to have been a part of. When the vehicle bomb blew up the exterior wall he and another guy jumped in a vehicle with their weapons and kit and sped off to the scene of the crime. As they arrived the suicide bombers were breaching the perimeter and they quickly started taking them out. As they engaged the insurgents their suicide vests began to detonate. At the end of the ordeal this individual had taken out at least 6-7 of the would be bombers and was walking back across the FOB with their AK-47s slung on his back as trophies and he was covered in blood. You will all be hearing the story within the next couple years I'm sure because he definitely deserves the Medal of Honor. It's a crazy small world too because I went through the SF course with the guy.

Well, that's all I can think of for now. Thanks again to everyone who has sent care packages and emails. It is always great to hear from you guys. Love to you all and we will talk again soon.

Nope.

So much bullshit I don't know where to start.

This sounds like it was either written by a 13 year old Call of Duty nerd, or someone in the Army.

Either way, this never fuckin happened

All bullshit! It's called selection not the "SF course" And I haven't heard shit about any of this and I have friends in ODA and ODD. I fuckin worked with them in Iraq. If your not a spammer and this is a real friend I would totally call bullshit. Fuckin CoD nerds

Your 'friend' sounds like a boot POG fuckstick

Agreed! A little fuckin POG who I assume was using TB for Taliban. When we all know to call them fuckin Haji. Your friend isn't SF he's probably a fuckin mechanic who's never left the wire!
