Effects Of L-ARGININE Postworkout

Thought this study would interest many of you..

Dr. John Ivy, Ph.D, of the University of Texas, conducted research on the effect of amino acid l-arginine on post-exercise recovery. Arginine helps stimulate pancreas to release insulin, and is also known to be important for muscle metabolism. Dr. Ivy studied the effects on the rate of muscle glycogen synthesis after exercise. Carbohydrate-arginine supplementation increased muscle-glyocgen replenishment by 35% more than carbohydrate alone. Ivy concluded that arginine, when added to carbohydrate, makes more glucose available for glycogen production. It produces this effect by increasing the use of fat, rather than glucose, as an energy source after exercise. Simply put, arginine makes glycogen replenishment more efficient.

The results of this study is important to anyone who works out regularly.. to take arginine with your postworkout nutrition. I have been doin it for a few years now with great results and many still question how effect arginine is. Strength-training coach Charles Poliquin swears by 2000 mg. of l-arginine postworkout and this study goes to show that once again, he knows what hes talking about.

Poloquin is one of THE best trainers out there- period. If you ever want to refresh your training, pick up a copy of The Poloquin Principles. Newbies to training, as well as seasoned vets, will not be dissapointed.

Arginine is a bit pricey, anyone know where i can get it cheap?

Hey BTW Monstar i remembered you posted about Arginine and creatine taken together and you were taking 7mg of Arginine w/ your creatine. I looked at the TRAC bottle and you need 3grams of Arginine, not 7mg. Just thought i'd let you know b/c i was doing the same thing you were then i saw the bottle and stopped.

Haha you must have read it wrong bro.. either that or I typed it wrong. I take around 2-3g with my creatine not 7 mg.! Haha I dont even know where you could find 7 mg. arginine tabs. GNC sells regular arginine in 1g and 500 mg. capsules. Theyre a rip-off though..

I think you told me once that you broke open the 600mg capsules from Twinlab and used it for creatine... if it wasn't you somebody else said it. I bought my Arginine from Beyond-a-century.com, but mine came w/ l-lysine. Tastes horrendous, i'm lookin for a cheap source.
