Okay, I know that a lot of times when bodybuilders get down to the last few weeks before competition, they try to lean out as much as they can by eating very few carbs, and the carbs they do eat are all vegtables basically. then in addition they have plenty of protein thru lean meats, and some healthy fats as well.

Would it work if I were to try a diet like this year round? Just for the sake of staying ultra lean? Like I would rather not include any complex carbs at all, not even oatmeal or anything like that, because I think I would do better at a diet like this, if I just didnt eat carbs period (Itd be easier for me to stick to)
And plus there would always be veggies to curb the hunger.

If I were to start doing this type of a diet right now, what would happen? would I lose a ton of weight really quickly and then come to a halt? I wanna get ripped. Right now I'm about 5'9" 180 lbs, and 17% bodyfat, and I wish I were more like 7% bodyfat.

okay but why would you single out so many foods, thats not very wise if you ask me. how much weight you lose depends on calories not carbs. And if cals are too low your body will go into starvation mode and burn your muscles for energy. A balanced diet and some cardio is the best way to do it. fast is not always a good thing trust me.

Off topic: I used to live in MN. I live bout 20 mins south of you in a little town called Farmington.

NO!!!

Nope!!!

No way, your completely wrong on this point!

And plus there would always be veggies to curb the hunger.
Think again.

You would shrink!

Yep pretty much.

I wanna get ripped. Right now I'm about 5'9" 180 lbs, and 17% bodyfat, and I wish I were more like 7% bodyfat.

If your 17% get on a diet that makes sense till you get to 8 or 9%. Then if you still want to go lower you can start carb cycling. To go from no diet at all straight into a keto or ultra low carb diet doesn't make any sense.

Taking out any one macronutrient from your diet long term isn't very unhealthy. Every food has its use, place and time, besides the brain LIVES on carbs, don't starve it.

yeah, i know it depends on calories, Im just saying that it might be a lot easier to cut back on calories (and not have to pay so much attention to numbers) if the extent of my carb intake was vegtables.

I would rather limit the types of foods I eat, then rather how much of a certain food I eat.

But I get what you are saying, and that you think my approach is a little limiting. I just thought I'd ask, because I've heard of other people using a similar approach.

Farmington? hmm, interesting yeah thats not too far away. How long ago did you live there?

I'd rather just use one diet to get me the whole way, if at all possible.
I figure if the diet is clean enough, my body will respond correctly by dropping all the appropriate bodyfat.

I did the low carb thing when i was like 15 and its not a good thing. Plus you don't want to be come "carbphobic".

I moved there bout 10 years ago and we just moved to where i am now in 02. I miss it and i plan on moving back.

I'd suggest you read a couple books and then get back to us.
First read "Body for Life" by Bill Phillips
Second read "Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle" by Venuto
The eating regime in those books WILL get you where you want to go and plus do it healthy.

Remember the pro's don't want you to know this info cause it's so effective and really works. :evil

Low carb is strictly short term. I've heard people not making much gains and feeling tired all the time from low carb dieting for extended periods of time.

Plus, if you dont get at least a certain amount of carbs, your brains dont function as it should.

Sugar causes your body to stop burning fat and start wanting carbs for energy. As long as your getting carbs through vegetables/oats What's wrong with that? I don't see any reason to avoid starches and sugars for long term fat loss.

True about the calories though. The carbs should be replaces with unsaturated fats so you get most of your calories and the deficit is made up of that stuff around your stomach your trying to burn

If you don't add fats to replace the carbs your avoiding , you WILL be tired
