They are not encrypted correct? Who has access to read them? Are they treated like email (like hotmail) encrypted email (like hush) or open text messages?

They are not encrypted, so they can be snooped as they travel over the wire.

BTW, my work here came across a fed snooping device .. it looks like a keyboard adapter plug (you know the ones that you use to make a big keyboard plug fit in a small hole) .. but it transmits your keystrokes to someone 100 feet away with the receiver.
