I doubt he ever believed they raped her. I think he saw it as a way to get up the political ladder - alot of prosecuters do this and get away with it and trumpeted as heros...

Basically.. some stupid ass stripper that some members of Duke's Lacrosse team accused them of raping her. There was another girl there, her stripper friend, that disputed the 1st stripper's account the entire time.

Anyway.. the DA ran with it in the media and basically destroyed these boy's lives, and it was obvious to everyone - including him - that this was a bullshit setup charge. However.. it was a bunch of rich -well to do white boys - rapeing a poor black girl - and that's all the media and the DA needed to have a 20/20 story...

There are alot more facts that would lead any reasonable DA to have dropped this... well... he's fucked himself now.
