Drinking egg whites....

Thinking about drinking egg whites as an inexpensive source of protein.How many of you do/have done this? How many egg whites do you use? Is there anything you can do to make it taste better? Thanks guys, Chris
 
3 grams per egg white...your looking at a whole shit load of eggs,suspension is right..dont fuck with uncooked eggs
 
I know what the other Bro's say about uncooked eggs but i always put 3 in protein shakes.
 
Buy those egg whites that come in a little milk carton looking container. It has about 50-60g of protein per conatiner so I just mix that with some milk and a banana and 1 cup of fat free yogurt. Taste pretty damn good and they can't give you salmonilla when you buy these :)
 
I'm not sure which country your from but in the UK the majority of eggs carries a red lion stamp which guarantees they are salmonella free. As for the taste I also put them in a flavoured protein drink, you just can't tell the egg whites are there. If you can't get salmonella free eggs though, don't take them raw.
 
damn now you guys have me worried about drinking egg whites. I sometimes put 2-3 egg whites in my protien shakes also and you can't taste em at all. I might now consider going to the store and picking up the carton like organon canon mentioned.

Most likely you are not going to get poisoned. But dont take the chance. Its not worth it.
 
You will eventually build up a resistance to salmonella, so if you've been drinking egg whites for years you are probably okay.

I doubt it. First, if you have not had illness from egg consumption, than most likely you have not come into contact with Salmonella. With no contact with the organism, there is no acquired immunity. Second, there are numerous strains of Salmonellae, not just one, so even if you possibly do build an immunity to one, there are others to take its place.
 
i won't risk getting sick over that. i would rather take 10 mins and cook the bastards than hurl in the shitter all night. plus if you drink an egg that has a small crack on it micro-organisms inside and around the shell will "fester" and make you sick. if your good with this bottoms up. take it easy bro.
 
MrBLONDE is right can you not buy eggs that guarantees they are salmonella free?
they are a great source of protein and add well to shakes.
 
Rocky used whole raw eggs and had no problem:)


I don't recomend seeing the Schwarzanneger flop "End of Days" but their is a pretty funny stab at the Rocky raw egg thing. Arnold takes a piece of old pizza, some coffee and some vodka and slams it in the blender. Gotta try that.
 
If you want to drink egg whites without the salmonella try this : put the egg whites in a glass and then nuke them on low in the microwave for about forty - fifty seconds ,then stir and repeat .This should be long enough to destroy any bacteria , but still keep the egg whites liquid. (World Health Organisation has stated microwaves safely destroy salmonella)
 
You can go to bakery as I do where I live and for about 26.00/30.00 they will sell you a thirty pound tub of processed (yellows removed) and heat treated egg whites... If you catch the nite baker he will sell it for about 15.00 and pocket the $$ :D

i have done it in the past, however the eggwhites must be pasturized to avoid any bacteria. it isn't really as inexpensive as you may think it is. your better off supplementing your diet with a protein shake low in carbs. CPA.

At a Dorian Yates seminar I went to in Wigan UK, Dorian said that he never eats raw eggs as the muan body cannot digest them properly unless they are cooked.
I know that in the past I tried raw eggs and they did give me the shits!:rolleyes:

One bout with explosive diarrhea and projectile vomiting from food poisoning and you will thoroughly cook everything that could possibly put you in that state again. For those that don't know, let me give you an analogy:

Alcohol poisoning: "I think I might die..."
Food poisoning: "I wish I were dead..."

Cook the damn eggs, Rocky was just a movie (and not a very good one) and anyways, Apollo Creed kicked his ass and was a lot more buff than him. You have no way of knowing how those eggs were handled before they made their way to your local dairy/produce section.

One thing nobody has mentioned is that raw eggwhite contains a compound called Avidin which will bind to a b-vitamin called Biotin. In this state it cannot be absorbed through the intestines and can lead to a deficit of Biotin if you eat many raw eggwhites (>15) and simultaneously are dieting. Of course, most people usually don't eat that many raw eggwhites so it shouldn't be a problem.

What Dorian said about cooked eggwhites being easier for the body to absorb is true! The protein in uncooked eggwhites (and "raw" protein in general) has to be de-naturated for a quicker and better absorption in the intestines. If you eat "raw" protein (meat, egg, fish, chicken a.s.o.) your stomach has to do the de-naturating of the protein molecule itself and this may take so long time that it has passed the point in the intestines of being able to be absorbed by the body. The process of cooking, frying, microwaving a.s.o. takes care of this de-naturating of the protein and hence the protein is ready to be broken down to amino acids and di-, and tripeptides for absorption.

egg white (from an 80 g egg) = roughly 11g protein...but I would not drink it raw - boil 6 of them at a time and eat during the day...I use soy milk to mix with my protein shakes...:)
 
I agree with CCrom 100%. Raw egg whites are a destroyer of Biotin. Alcohol and Caffeine are other biotin destroyers. Biotin is an integral vitamin in the metabolism of carbohydrates, Amino Acids and fatty acids. Deficiency is a very bad thing. Biotin deficiency is common as our daily diet usually do not supply enough biotin. Biotin is found in egg yolks, organ meats, brewer's yeast, legumes & beans, nuts, oatmeal.
Biotin Deficiency signs: Muscle pain, poor fat metabolism, poor appetite, greyish skin color, depression. Dermatitis.

That is absolutely correct. Was that seminar at maximes, quite a few years ago? I was there.

OK, I am not a scientist so I may be wrong here but this is basically how I understand it. When eggs are cooked (biatin) is released in the yolk which helps aid with the digestion of the egg proteins. Without it the protein is not absorbed very well. This is the same reason that we include 2 yolks in every 6 whites.

Then there is also the increased risk of salmonella.
 
An egg white has 6grams of protein with a bv(bioavailability)of 89/100 while a whole egg has 8grams of ptotein with a bv of 100.(the highest in nature)Protein when exposed to high temeperatures looses it's bioavailability(metousiosis).So,drinking egg whites is better but just don't do it cause salmonella will ooccur very soon.
 
they are fine you can find them in carton similar to the milk ones and they have 11.5 gr of proteins per 100 ml.

They are also pasteurized so they are definitively salmonella free.

I like to have with fruit juice, I like them

bump . it's actually 50 per serving and there's 3 per container . i was mixing 1 container plus 3 eggs scrambeld .
 
i've been drinking raw egg whites every single day foor the past 3 years and i'm fine. no shits, no gas, no salmonilla.
 
Salmonella is good for you-I like having diarrhea and vomiting-keep drinking the eggs-what doesnt kill you makes you stronger
 
Does anybody buy those egg whites which ORG CANON mentioned? They come in a blue & white 2 pack carton, with 8 egg whites/pack.
They can be eaten in raw form. I have been drinking them for years with no problem...
