Dopamine Agonist (Cabergoline) Permanent Damage?

Hi all! Back in December/Jan I took Rx Grade Cabergoline for 4 weeks (.5mg/2x a week). I took with my Tren cycle to lower prolactin. I found music more enjoyable while taking this, and a week after my last dose, for 4 days straight, music was SUPER euphoric. Music would literally make my breath stop. I'm guessing this is some type of rebound? This wasn't a placebo either, I didn't even know that Caber affected dopamine lol. However, since then, I've noticed that I very rarely get pumped from music, and have some anhedonia (not sure if related to the caber)

Did Caber fry my dopamine system? Are my receptors downregulated? I've never used any other drug in my life, and am only on Testosterone Replacement. Any info would help, this is making me kind of depressed. Thanks! :)

Cabergoline is a dopamine agonist. Dopamine is one of your body's 'feel good hormones'. It's released when you have sex, eat fatty foods, take recreational drugs etc.

Cabergoline will not suppress your natural dopamine production. What happened is that you were used to how you felt on the cabergoline with superficially high dopamine levels. Once you returned to normal dopamine levels (when you stopped the cabergoline) you don't have the same effect.

Long story short, cabergoline won't suppress natural dopamine production or down regulate dopamine receptors.

Dopamine plays a key role in your neurological rewards system (as said above- its a feel good hormone).
Quite interestingly the issue you are experiencing is the same as opiate addicts experience when they stop using opiates. You see the number of dopamine receptors in the body is not static, so when you use a dopamine agonist (or an opiate) there is an excess of dopamine. The body will generate and utilize more dopamine receptors, which increases that feel good feeling. When you stop taking the DA (or the opiate) you still have all of these excess dopamine receptors which are not being filled. The opiate user goes through withdrawal (this is just a portion of the withdrawal- the psychological aspect). The DA user will go through a period of lethargy, listlessness, lower sex drive, and a general "blah" feeling.
The thing is this, if you are experiencing this to the extent you say you probably did one of 2 things (or both) that I would not do in the future. You used too much of the DA or you used it for too long. If prolactin becomes an issue in future cycles I would significantly lower my dosage of caber. Rest assured you can get PRL in line at a much lower dose if you are going through this.
Now that you know why, on to the good news. Over time the body will adjust to these lower levels of dopamine, the excess # of occupied receptors will return to normal, and your neurological rewards system will as well.
Now for long term opiate users it is possible that they will never 100% fully return to normal but for our purposes and the dosage and duration we use DA's for, this should not be an issue (permanent damage).
Hope that helps.

every drug out there comes with risks. we live in a society (especially the younger generation) where everyone wants to take a drug

when I was growing up and you got sick you dealt with it, now parents are taking their kids to the doctor for a fucking sniffle.. spoiled fucking generation. every 20 year old I run into is on some sort of medication these days, what ever happened to just dealing with things on your own?

this is why I tell guys to use natural as much as possible. its a good fucking thing to use mucuna pruriens (what is in hcgenerate ES) instead of using a harsh drug like caber ... going the natural route is so much better

but hey people want to continue enriching pharma CEO's. do people really think they develop drugs to help people? HA! they are trying to get filthy rich.

It's also why now the average life expectancy is up in the 70s instead of in the 20s. You can turn your nose up at medicine if you what but our medical system and it's use has more than tripled the average life expectancy. I would call that an improvement myself.
I know in my grandmas generation tons of people died as kids and never even got to be teens. Now those kids that used to die in the 1st few years actually get to live...

^^^ vaccines and things like synthetic insulin have helped people live longer. as well as advancements in surgery, cancer treatment etc. however that isn't what I am talking about.. I am talking about too many people choosing to use unnecessary drugs that they do not need.

the evidence is the fact that anti-biotics don't even work anymore, cause docs have oversubscribed them.
or that too many people are straight up addicted to pain killers like oxy.
or that every other high school kid is on anti depressants. wah my gf broke up with me so I'm going to go on pills for it.. it is pathetic

the drug companies don't give a rats ass about that, they are making a fortune. and if anything these advancements have been pathetically slow. no money in finding cures, but a helluva lot of money in treating the issue

in terms of fitness. too many idiots are taking painkillers, anti inflammatories, and other unnecessary drugs and fucking themselves up for life because of it. and its not their fault always, a lot of times its what the doc tells them to take. but ultimately it is up to the individual to decide what they will take.
