Dont you need SOME estrogen?

I am confused about how much estrogen, if any, we males need in our bodys. If one takes either clomid or nolvadex the whole time while on cycle, doesn't that stop all estrogen from binding? What is the deal with how we should balance out our estrogen level, if needed.

Clomid and Nolvadex are Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators (S.E.R.M.s). They compete with estrogen for binding sites. In some locations they activate the site just like estrogen would and in others they don't activate the site and prevent estrogen from doing so.

Generally you do not experience low estrogen side effects (loss of sex drive, increased LDL) while using a S.E.R.M. However, with an Aromatase Inhibitor (A.I.) like Femara or Aromasin it is possible to lower your estrogen too much.

good answer.

Both men & women have a balance of all the sex hormones that make us what we are. When there is an imbalance then things get sort of messy. I'm not sure what happens to men w/ insufficient estrogen, but if you run an AI that nydj66 says could lower a guy's estrogen levels, would they retun to normal when you come off?

I guess I am generally not real clear on AI's other than that they inhibit the conversion to estrogen of certain AAS - but I'm not clear on what they do to natural estrogen production. Women generally use nolva (sparingly!) for managing estrogen-pattern fat durign competition prep - how much it helps, I'm not sure either - but its not an "anti-fat pill" to be used for general fat loss. I've heard of one or two women running Arimidex for competition - but the introduction of the conversion of any AAS to estrogen would produce a negligable addition to the amount of estrogen women produce naturally - so what would Armindex even get a female? Is there another component of the estrogen blocking to this stuff that would bring reduce not only the aromatization of an AAS but also the guy's own natural estrogen production?
