When i was in High school, this dude knew how to play 4 cords on his guitar and his "buddy" would sing hotel california everyday(for a damn week), outside at the bench where me and my crew would hang out.
We couldn't bear in to more and finally one of my friends snapped and told him to shut to fuck up or he will break his guitar. Since then the song has been a big turn off, nomatter done by who.

guitar solos belong to Jimmy Page, Jimmy Hendrix, Alex Lifeson, Geddy Lee, Joe Perry, Eddie VanHalen, Steve Howe, Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson....the list is endless...im too tired...but the solo in hotel california does not conform to my interpertation of mind blowing guitar solos.
I have not yet seen a "greatests guitar solos" poll in guitar magazines that doesn't have Hotel California in TOP 10.
First rule with great guitar solos is: The actual song must be timeless classic too. There are plenty of great guitar solos in songs that aren't worth a baboon's shit > most VH's stuff for example.
HC's solo is played over one of the finest chord progressions in popular music Bm, F#7, A, E, G, D, Em & F#7. Beautiful melodic solos from both Felder and Walsh, and while they are playin' the solo at the end, they do this kind of call and response thing which makes it fantastic.
