I hear bros mentioning a lot that they tan to help get rid of or control acne from a cycle. I wanna know if it personally works for you.

I just finished up a cycle and I've still got pretty bad face acne from it. I am going to the WMC in South Beach in a couple weeks and I really wanna get it at least mostly cleared up by then. I just started using Proactive again 2 times a day and I'm gonna be washing my sheets every couple days to get rid of built up oil. I also started tanning again. I just wonder about the tanning because on the Proactive bottles it says to avoid the sun because it can cause you to break out, but I keep hearing bros say it helps them.

Yes its my life line and epsom salt baths .

Brad.

Tanning doesn't work for me although I do tan just to look darke. Only thing that seems to work is sitting in my hot-tub for 30 minutes a day. I guess the chemicals get rid of oily skin????

Hey guys I've got a question about tanning salons.

I've never had acne before but on this primo cycle I'm on, I'm starting to notice some on my chest and arms. And I think there is a little bit popping on the back.

I want to go to a tanning salon, because I'm also a little pasty white in skin tone.

How do tanning salons work?

I've never been to one in my life.

Do they show you to use a tanning bed? They're easy to use right? What about the temperature?

I know this seems stupid but I have this fear of getting locked inside a tanning bed and ending up like a human toast.

I just need tips of my first visit to a tanning salon. I'm ignorant when it comes to going to them since I've never been to one.

LOL ya its really easy. Just go in there and they will recommend how long to stay in and they show you how to use it. If you can press a button and close a door you will be just fine. Use a stand up bed if they have one. It might cost a little more but it doesnt hurt your ass from laying on it and you get a better tan on the side cause your arms are up.

explain your concerns to the hottest little 18 year old counter girl and ask her to demonstrate. she will think it is cute!

Mederma works miracles if you use it right.

Proactiv claims that it doesnt. But everytime I use it me and a couple friends have always gotten brown spots while using proactiv and getting the slightest sun exposure.

Tanning only dries out acne on the short term if you ask any dermatologist they will tell you to much tanning is actually bad for acne or can increase it.

Cosmetically, tanning helps a ton. Sometimes tanning can clear u acne, but tanning can also camoflage the acne too. If the acne is on your face, do what you can to keep the pores cleaned as best as possible. Keeping the face clear of acne may mean drying out the pores too which isn't the best thing either. Astringents such as Sea Breeze works very well. At nice tan does work too to either get rid of it or camoflage it like I already mentioned.

Go for only 5 minute the first time - not 10 like me - I was burnt for 4 days after.

Good to hear that it works for most people. I washed my sheets and pillowcases and used proactive twice today. I'm going to keep up the tanning and hopefully most of it goes away in the next 2 weeks.

It is really not up for debate, it has been proven that UV light kills the bacteria in the hair follicles. If there is no bacteria to mix with the sebum, then there won't be acne.

In Oz you have to answer a questionair before your allowed to use the sunbeds. the questionair is used to determin what length of time your should use.

5 mins is definantly enough on your first go, even if you have a darker complection. If you are ghostly white anymore than 5 mins will be suicide. i was at 12 mins by the end of my 2 week stint. can only go once every 2 days.

im sure it cleared up my acne for a while.

Studys show that sunbeds increase your chances of getting suncancer by 98% so dont overdo it.

Hey how did your tanning and Proactiv work?

I'm using Proactiv TWICE a day too and I just went in for my first tanning session today.

Did your acne clear away? Especially on the face?

It helped a little, but I don't know how much was the tanning specifically. The tanning definitely makes it a little less noticeable though. I started showering twice a day and using proactive after both showers tho at the same time. The proactiv definitely made it better but I was still breaking out and some of the worse ones are sort of still there but not gone completely. I think if I would have done that during the cycle I may not have gotten much in the first place. I was only showering in the morning and not really using proactive. It works better to prevent than to cure at least for me.

I'm still breaking out a little now it kinda sucks. I think it's my hormones still getting back to homeostasis.

Cool, thanks for the update.

One more question if you don't mind, were your breakouts worse DURING or AFTER the cycle?

Breakouts were worse during cycle but like I said I didn't really hit the proactive until after my cycle, maybe in the last week. It got pretty bad about 4 weeks in the 8 weeks. I should have used it right from the beginning. But who knows I probably still would have broken out a little just not as much.

Also wash your sheets and pillowcases -- especially pillowcases -- every week.

Is melanotan II derived from tanning?

:lmao:

Sorry that wording was pretty funny. Melanotan I & II are peptides that cause you to tan with minimal sun exposure. There are some good threads here about it. I don't know how much they help with acne if at all because I think the benefit from tanning, other than to make it less noticeable, comes from the UV light killing the bacteria that causes the acne.

How is it amazing? Is melanotan II derived from tanning?

Not at all. I have freckles on my face, and they have only become less prominent.

Hmm I just looked up Hibiclens and it looks really good. Proactive never seems to actually 100% get rid of my acne, just makes it better. I'm gonna give that stuff a shot.

Hey daville does the HIBICLENS work for acne on the face as well?

Did you try it? If not, do you think it will work in getting rid of acne and keeping new ones from breaking out? Also is this something I can buy at the grocery store or CVS or places like that?

It looks like it is definitely for face use. I found this site when I was searching for it: http://www.acne.org/hibiclens-reviews/362/page1.html

Seems like some people had pretty good results.

People keep saying it works great but watch out about getting it in your nose or ears lol. I guess it's some pretty strong stuff. I'm gonna order some. I'll post up about it when I see how it goes.

No problem man, I'm always trying to help where I can.

It seems like that site is fairly unbiased (as in has no connection with the products) but I only looked at it for a second so I can't be 100% sure. It seems like the stuff is only about $10 so I figure why not give it a shot. Let me know how it works out for you when you try it.

sorry guys. im back. yeah it works for face. acne.org has tons of reviews. go to local pharm and you can order a gallon jug pretty cheap. let me know what u guys think and ur results.

Just wanted to drop in and say I started using hibiclens. I've had really bad acne since my last cycle that never seemed to drop back to normal. I was using pro-activ and that wasn't doing anything. I ran out of most of the pro-activ stuff but I started using just a small amount of the rough one first (2.5% benzyl-peroxide with exfoliate) and rubbing it real light over my face -- basically just my fingers gliding over my skin but enough to get rid of a little layer of dead skin -- and then pat drying my face. Then taking a cotton pad and covering it in hibiclens and wiping my whole face. I just wait until it kind of dries then I wet my fingers (not too much cause you dont want it running down your face into your eyes or anything) and rubbing lightly on my whole face. Then I rinse my face off and pat dry with a towel.

Since I started using it I havent noticed one new mark on my face, and slowly -- very very slowly -- the marks already on my face seem to be fading. It's just taking forever. I think I'm gonna see a dermatologist because I have red marks from big breakouts that never really went away and its been months.

In any case, the hibiclens seems to be working. It wasn't an overnight miracle like some people reported, but it's better than anything else I used.

it all really depends on the acne man. There are two types: nodular, and just pimply. tanning wont really help with nodular acne as its much deeper in the skin and feels like a hard bump and dont come to points, pimply acne is more surfaced. A new treatment used by dermatologists (skin doc) us actually UV therapy, they blast you with UV rays (what makes u tan) basically sun burning you.

Natural sun from sunny south FL makes wonders to me.

Im italian and on test/eq...if I did that if would look like the valdez oil spill

I was tanning twice weekly, high compression beds... Did not help my back/chest acne while on test-e. Helped blend a bit, but did not clear it. Everyones skin is diffrent, tanning helps me off cycle but on, nothing helps.

Helps make it less visable and can dry your skin out some but ive also read and been told by my dermo that tanning can increase oil production but proper washing and use of a topical product in conjunction with tanning gets rid of most if not all non severe acne IMO. If you have the big cystic ones you need accutane.

i find swiming in the ocean and laying in the sun clear acne in hours ... tanning in the winter works but not as good .. sea salt face scrub for 4.99 at cvs works very well to

Another thing you may have to watch out for when tanning with acne is that the tanning can cause hyper pigmentation (red spots) where you have really bad breakouts (nodular acne). I have this issue myself because I was in the sun a lot. The red marks are fading, but they take forever. Things like salicylic acid face treatments and other acid face treatments can speed up recovery of red spots. The acne.org forums have tons of info about it.

im glad to hear that the hibiclens is working out for u. i love that stuff!!!

I voted yes - but I've never personally tried it. I only tan on very rare occasions, as I don't want to end up with leathery skin.
My preference is to use Dial anti-bacterial soap on a bristled scrub brush.

yes for me i try tanning 3-5 times a week if i skip day or 2, those fuckers take advantage and break out everywhere... lucky for me my girl likes killing them :p

I tan 1-2 x a week. If u r tanning more than that ur asking for trouble.

Sent from my SPH-L710 using EliteFitness

Yes guys tanning so much are asking for trouble. Skin cancer is no joke. It runs in my family so I have to be careful. I shouldn't tan at all but it definitely helps with acne.
