Does it really matter what you eat before and after a workout?

Normally I would just look/read around but I get conflicting answers on this.

Some people say that as long as your protein is good enough throughout the day it does not matter. Some say eat alot of high GI carbs before the workout and some say after.

So what should you eat before and after your workout? What time should you eat more protein and is it ok to eat something with a higher GI before or after working out? Thanks.
 
I don't really know. My personal experience tells me if I eat a shitload of fat/carbs the day before I will lift heavy the next day and it will be easy.
 
TOTALLY matters. I have been in vacation land all summer eating what i want and have horrible energy and strength in the gym compared to when my diets on par.
 
Of course matters....Ill eat slow digesting carbs with protien 30-45 min before training. Post workout Ill take in around 40grams of protien and fast acting carbs.
