Hello all!

Just out of curiosity. Do you workout at home or go to the gym?

Which is better?

Right now I go to the GYM but I was pondering on many occasions about buying myself basic equipment and working out at home.

I dont like people asking me if I powerlift or what football team I am on. Thanks but I rather concentrate on workout and recuperation, not this.... Damn I actually thought about going into hockey, not football.... But hey at 200+ it is hard to skate...

Reasons why I think gym at home would be better than GYM.

1)MONEY. WHen you go to the gym you pay big rent costs, even though you dont use half the equipment. (cable preacher curls are for sissies... Bring on deadlifts baby!). For a commercial gym you pay anywhere from 200-1000 a year. For us non weekend warrior types, we go to the gym for many m,any years which means we spend 1000s of dollars. Why noit invest like 2000 max into a home gym with basic (and best) equipement? Much cheaper since you pay for what you have.

2) Convinience. No 2 hour drives to and from. Hey it takes 5 minutes to get upstairs have your own shower and eat some meats!

3) All sweat is yours, no need to wipe it!

4) 100% concetration. No boys who comne up and say.

"Hey you were deadlifting lots and now you are power cleaning, what football team are you on?"

5) Shower is yours and there is no one there

6) GYM is closed on somew holidays. In your own basement gym you cant workout whenever you feel/need.

7)MORE SIZE&STRENGTH. Yeh baby, no distracting frat boys lifts!
barbell is always the best!

8) You can get drunk, pull down your patns and workout with your pals and get injured.... Just like a powerlifting meet. Sorry I had to say that. :)

ANyways, wehat is your opinion on this issue? Wher do you train, at home or at the gym?

reply please! YEH!

Both have a place.

Liking doing the home gym thing with the Assylum crew though.

Started deadlifting finally eh SSAlex? Good for you, great exercise.

I can't workout at home, it's gym only for me.
If I try to lift at home, I always stop before I really work my
muscles to failure, just because I cant stay focused. If I
go to the gym, I can stay focused and stay on the weights for
90 minutes or more. Also, there is a wider variety of stuff
available for use, even if you have a great home gym most
real gyms will have a lot more machines and free weights. I
don't know too many people who have power racks in their basements. But I also get to use a pretty decent gym for free
at my school, so maybe I cant be impartial on this issue.
And alex, I've seen a lot of 210, 220, even 230 punds guys who
can skate like hell. You should consider giving hockey a try.
But football is cool too, I would have played if I could keep
on weight.

I love training at home. I can scream play loud music, drop deadlifts, wear no tshirt etc etc.

some times when i am inbetween sets (those long 5 min ones) i do stupid stuff like take the washing in or water the lawn when i should be recovering....its a bad habit, that has to be broken.

At the gym it becomes strictly buiness....straight in, workout ,and straight out no mucking around. But the travel is hard, i dont like other people watching me. I hate PT telling me not to do things. Most of the easy to get to gyms are "health centres" which is not a good thing

At the institute i train at sometimes (rarely like once every two months) I get really good coaching....something you cant get at a regular gym where the trainers dont know squat (pun partially intended)
but i only do things like overhead squats, C&J, pulls and deadlifts.....so i dont get to bench or anything like that.

Good reply. But really, it is kinda hard to focus when they play horrible music (Backstreet boys, NSYNC etc). Oh, since you workout in school I guess the music there is alright. Once you start going to non-school gyms, then it gonna suck.

Too bad I am old (18) or I would practise skating and hockey and it would be fun.... damn.., I wish I could tell myself to start lifting weights at 10 and skate then... Maybe I would be close to being in NHL.....

How much do you deadlift?? If people accuse you of being a powerlifter or football player it must be som serious weight huh.....

The only lift of yours that I know of is the curls with 30-40lb.
