I used to until I inevitably found it was a fruitless exercise because everyother fucker would just leave there shit on the bar, usually on the floor, sometimes on a ez-curl bar in the rack. So I don't anymore.

I hate my gym and everyone in it... but there is no-where else with a free weight area that is usable... so im stuck with ass jockeys, and the stupid little kids who I pull bars off of seemingly on a daily basis... fuckers.

Other than that, it is common decency to replace the weights after use.
As we can see from the comments, the decency necessary to return the weights may not be very "common".

I return the plates every time.

You best put them plates back on that tree if you wanna call urself a man, i hate whenmutherf#@$ers dont.

I consider it lazy not to. I mean, I put the plates on the bar, shouldn't you clean up after yourself? Then again, pulling the 5 or 10lb plates off when I get there isn't a big deal, no one leaves anything heavy on :-D.

Bars at my gym are typically left with a plate at each end so that's how I usually leave them. I think people consider it unmanly to use less than a plate on each end for bench or semi-squats so that's what most start with.

My first action on getting to a fresh station, though, is to remove the two plates since I almost always begin my sets with an empty bar.

I feel guilty now, I always leave a plate on bench and two on leg press, but I totally strip everything else. My gym is terrible for people leaving their crap everywhere, today I went to the squat rack and someones left a 2 1/2lb plate on each side.

I am saying this from what goes on at the gym I go to now. At my old gym people ALWAYS racked the weight back up but at the one now there is always a 45 on the bar.

Guess they must not have too many girlies working out there...really makes me mad when some ass leaves plates on the f*****g bar. Especially when it's 2-3 of them on each side...and yes, I do bitch and make the boys unload if I catch their asses leaving the shit on

ya, I always get wierd looks when I go to use the bench as someone is just finishing up. They always ask if I want the 45's on the bar and I always say "I warm up with the bar". A lot of the times it's the 150lb team bench press kids and they look at me like I'm a retard, lol.

I only leave the weight on the bar if I'm immediately returning for another set. If theres weight on the bar I assume someone is using it and I pass it by. So, yes, I remove the weight every time. Theres no reason to tie other people up into thinking that the bench/bar is currently in use (reserved).

When I see these little cocksalad twerps leaving their 35lb plates on the straight bar, I go curl it real quick before I pull the plates off and replace them with 45's.
