Do you guys work 8-5? How do you eat and train efficiently?

I recently graduated college and started working like 8-6 every day dude. How do you guys do it? Just eat at your desk all day? I want to train during lunch because the gym is so close, but dont have enough time to get a good workout in.

Any suggestions?

I work from 0830 to 1700 or later. I cook all of my food on sun and freeze it. I pack a cooler every morning at 0500, I get to the gym at 0630 and work out to around 0800 and go to work. I eat every two hours at work. Gotta make it happen bro.

Eat all day sitting in my depressing cubicle. yep. Actually I eat better during the week because I'd much rather eat than do work. You'll adjust, I usually eat veggies (carrots brocoli) constantly during the day, with protein of some sort every few hours of course. If i had a good day of eating i'm pretty wired come 5o'clock.

most bbuilders i know and in my old days we didnt work at all or if we did it was here and there...we moved into a house with someone else who had shit s we culd set up camp and base...and train.....get you a good women////

all in fun-

I don't work 8-5 but I do work about 25hrs a wk and go to school full time.
I usually cook chicken twice a wk on the grill and then cut it up and divide it into 8oz portions and bag em. I'll eat them cold on the go. For carbs I make an oatmeal shake. 1 cup of oats, 2packs splenda and 16 oz water. Blenderize and chug. Very quick, easy and cheap. The only prep time is the chicken but that only has to be done 2x/wk.
That's a meal I eat a couple times a day. It's 45-50g protein and 60g carbs and is easy to take w/ you and eat anywhere.

I work 10-6 Monday through Saturday (Off some Mondays). I usually wake up around 630 get a protein shake and a cup of oatmeal in, and then head to the gym. I usually cook eggs with more oatmeal before work, then at work my lunch is usually subway or Quiznos chicken sandwich. I also bring protein shakes and cans of tuna for snacks at work.

I am an ER nurse and I work from 7pm to 7am. Let me tell you it is a bitch trying to get my 4 meals in when I have a critical patient in one room, a sick baby in another, some other random problem in another, and oh EMS just rolled in with a CPR in progress! LOL I do my best to eat. I cook all my own food. I get the big bags of chicken breasts and cook the whole thing, so like six breasts. That will hold me for 2 days of work. I have a snack meal like cottage cheese with strawberries, and I drink 3 to 4 protein shakes. Just gotta do your best bro. It is a bitch but it is worth trying.

I feel your pain. I work about 50 hours per week, and I am on call 24x7 once every 4 weeks.

The key for me is prep work before the week starts. I cook a majority of my meals on Sunday and bring either protein powder or Myolplex shakes with me every day. If I get called out on an emergency, I stuff two Myoplex shakes in my bag and take off.

It is tough, but taking the advice of many on this board, I realized if the nutrition is not there, then nothing else I do, from a training standpoint, matters. You have to do whatever it takes to get your grub on. :)

shake in the morning before leaving work
2 packs oatmeal w/water for breakfast
bagel in an hr
lunch- 4 jr bacon cheesebgrs or 2 chicken sandwiches
2 hrs snack on some vitamin c fruit snacks/jelly type stuff
cheese on wheat crackers before leaving to work out
post workout shake
dinner-salad or rice w/ beef, chicken or salmon grilled
bedtime, shake

I work 10 to 11 hours a day bro and I eat every chance I get... about 6 times to 7 times a day sometimes. In the summer I have a problem eating because of the heat.......

bringing pre-made meals (if you have the appropriate food facilities-microwave and fridge are usual necessities) and/or shakes and bars with healthy snacks (nuts, granola, etc) is one way.

train after work or split it, with two mini workouts. one at lunch and one after work.

I have at least 2 shaked made in my cooler for work along with 2 meals. I have to eat on the fly cause we take 1 20min break in a 9hr day. I also start at 6:30am but if I were in ur case I would train in the morning and get it out of the way then all you hav to focus on the rest of the day is work and eating and you can go home after work and relax and spen time with ur family.

I am an RN as well, I have a hectic day, work 8-4pm...sometimes don't even get a break. so, on sundays, I cook all my meals, place them in containers, write what is in the conatiner, what day I prepared it. I prepare 2 solid meals for an 8 hour day, I drink one shake as well.. I eat every 3 hours like clock work. I train at 5 every morning monday-friday. I drink 1 shake with gatorade after training..about 6 a.m., then at work pasta with meat, then at lunch chili and rice, then at 3pm just a shake with an apple, then at home...at 5pm I eat a steak and rice, then usually more steak with a salad before bed.thats my base diet, if I try and gain mass, I throw in some extras thoughout the day, yoghurt, cheeseburger, an xtra potatoe here and there. when I lean down..I cut back on the carbs.

Solid plan.

Get a small cooler to put right by your desk, or for those of us that work outside, the truck. Carry more food than you can eat. Also make sure you have a can opener, fork, spoon, etc. It takes no time to get used to it. I'm fucking jealous of everyone that has nothing better to do than eat, train, chase ass, and go to class occasionally!

Planning is the key, I prepare and freeze all my chicken and pasta on a sunday. Luckily we have a small fridge, microwave and george foreman griller at work

wake at 5 am ---> cardio and abs ---> work 8 to 5 ---> train +/- more cardio ---> shower and sleep.

As far as meals, lots of tuna out of the can, cooked chicken breast in plastic bags to munch on, occassional protein shakes, and tons of water. It's hard and requires dedication, but then again so does everything else in life that's worthwhile.

I work 8-4:30. I get up at 5am and do cardio and then do weights at night. Breaking it up is easier for me.

+1,, I work shift, 4 weeks days, 4 weeks afternoons and 4 weeks midnights,, Sundays are cook a shitload of food day.. I also freezer pack and eat every 2 1/2 hrs.. The wife is a figure competitor so that makes it a little easier,, we eat the same kind of food.. but, its still alot of planning and schedualing,,but worth it in the long run,,

Cardio at 5am=puke for me.

Yeah it sucks but you get used to it after a week or so. I like to get up and down 5-10 BCAA pills with 16-20 ounces of water. I also like to rub on some YES as well. Trust me the hardest part is getting out of bed.

i usually work an 8 hour day, sometiems 12's on weekends depends on where I am in the rotation, add a 1.5hr drive each way onto that and I still get to the gym 5times a week. ill eat a protein bar on the way into work and going home, and I usually work 4-12am during the week so I hit the gym when I get off work, come home eat, shower goto bed, wake up at noon and do it all over again on 6-8hrs sleep. you just have to want it,there can be no excuses and you cant let anything get in the way. sure i might miss a meal if things get a little out of control at work (i work at a group home) but then I just eat when I can.

I work full time and go to school. The easiest thing to make sure you're eating right is do like pretty much everyone here has said and make your food in advance

I once had a job that started at 7am and I got the bright idea that I should train before I went to work. That lasted all of about 2 days. My quality of training at night compared to morning is night and day.

WOW, big fuckin replies dudes!!!! Its so much nicer knowing that you guys have to do it too. If I could give karma to all of you, I would. (Truth be told, I dont even know how to give it to one person, lol) Anyway, good shit. Keep it comin' if you have any other good pointers.
