I have not had a bag of sugar in my house for I bet every bit of 8-10 yrs.
I am a label reader, and even things I eat that have naturally occurring sugar in them I try to limit to no more than 6-8 gr. in a serving. And this is rare.
For instance dry cereals, if it has more than 3 gr. of sugar in it per serving, back on the shelf it goes!
