Do weight lifting gloves make you a pussy?

I used to be a powerlifter and since gloves weren't allowed in contests, I never trained with them. I developed thick callouses that would frequently be cut off during a set. Last week I fell on concrete and cut my hand up pretty bad. I had to break down and buy some "pussy pads" for my hands or else not train until my hand healed. I have found them to be comfortable and I'm not sure if I will go back to using my bare hands.

Yes I'm a firm believer in bare knuckle training, no lifting belts either. I hit the heavy bag bare hand too, just swing as hard as my hands can stand and no more.

Once in a while though, because of injury or other reasons you just have to use the padding for help. For back exercises specially my fingers and hands give out faster than my back so using gloves helps me get just a few extra seconds of good grip so my back can fail before my grip. Some times I'm just angry and need to power punch the bag until exhaustion, so wrapping my hands is a good way to keep from breaking my wrist...

Don't worry about the padding bro, you are already at the gym hitting it that is man enough. Pussy is the dude sitting at home drinking six-packs and yelling at professional athletes on TV about how bad they suck. The dude having to decide between: looking for the remote between the couch cushions vs. getting your ass up to change the channel... Actually pausing in their chair to think about it for a min or two...

Just get big enough that you could work out with a purse, a miniskirt, makeup, and STILL not look like a pussy

:twirl: LMAO

The solution to every problem in life: Just get big.

I only wear wrist wraps and a belt.

Weak wrists from boxing and lifted like an idiot when I first started pulled vertibrae. So when I get heavy to avoid annoying pains that would compromise the lift/gains I strap
Up.

Gloves I think are kind of fucked- but to each their own.

I will admit when I am in the gym and see a guy wearing gloves I automatically think pussy. but when I see them wear gloves to squat I think douche.

gloves will WEAKEN your hand strength and grip. they also weaken your forearms and wrists as well. DO NOT get started on using gloves unless you are a weekend warrior.

really straps, wraps, gloves, and yes even belts will cause imbalances that are very difficult to offset if you are weight training frequently. it is almost like wearing poor shoes when running long distances. the Kenyan's actually run barefoot as part of their training, there is a reason for that. it is to build strong feet and proper heel striking. this is why it is so stupid that soccer players are required to run in cleats, huge mistake!! play your game and practice cutting and kicking with cleats yes, but long distance running in cleats will lead to leg issues. same concept to wearing gloves!

I say gloves are just fine. I wear them myself from time to time. Better grip,,,who dosent want that?

you get a better grip but you will weaken your hand, wrist, forearms, etc in the process... so in the end you aren't improving your grip at all and you will create imbalances

I made my own grips out of a bike tire inner tube. Just cut them a bit wider than my hands width then sliced down the middle long ways. Can just wrap them around any bar or whatever you want. I only use them for specific excercises where I know my grip will fail before my strength will. But they are deadly and you still have to use your grip strength it's just some rubber helping you out a bit for that extra rep or 2. My hand get cut up and gnarly callouses as well so they are a life saver sometimes. Simple, cheap, effective.

I use gloves. But I'm a man and don't give a fuck what other men think about me.

x2

I can give a crap less about what anyone - especially guy, thinks about what I wear.

I have bad wrists & have to wear straps. And I wear gloves - I don't see the point of peeling off calluses a quarter inch thick every few weeks.

and your wrists will continue to weaken because of your gloves.

the reason they are getting worse is because your hands and wrists are weakening while the rest of your arm gets stronger. hence the imbalance. the sooner you stop using gloves the sooner the issue will reverse.

you will also start developing forearm issues and imbalances as well over time.

Once my injured hand heals I might go back to bare handed lifting at least for most lifts. Even with the injury I won't wear the gloves on any of the power lifts except the deadlift.

I believe unless you are moving super heavy weight(Ronnie Coleman used them} than you're better off without them. I'm a lineman with the phone company so my grip is something i need on a daily basis. I don't get the luxury of straps or padded gloves when i climb so i've kept that attitude in the gym as well. I also train my grip for BJJ using grip trainers and doing heavy farmers walks. That being said to each his own. If i saw some savage man handling 200lb dumbbells like big ronnie i could care less the amount of equipment that was used in the process, cause that's beast mode weight in anyone's book!

My gloves offer zero wrist support. They do have a slight padding but that's it and it prevents my skin from tearing up. My grip is strong and isn't weakening to say your grip sucks because of gloves is just something people made up because they want to feel more like a man. Actually since my gloves create a wider grip on the bar my grip is actually getting stronger because it's like I'm using a fat bar every time I lift so my forearms are being engaged more. Stop this dick swinging contest over gym apparel it's literally the gayest thing in body building. You like bare hands I like a glove but at the end of the day if I can complete the exercises with good form who the fuck cares. Because as you know it's not about the weight it's about form. So you may be able to do 300lbs with shit form I'll stick to my 250 with perfect form.

Smh
Judging other men by what they like
Fucking fags

I know

I take off my wrist straps as much as possible and do girl light weights. It's such bS - the ligaments in my wrists are something retarded. Maybe my next light deca cycle will help. All my other joints are A+ now. But, my wrists ache like no other under certain movements with weights.

Fuck it dude! Wear the wraps why risk injury because other people think it's "a pussy" thing to do. Those assholes don't have to deal with your pain. If they are that concerned with you just tell them to hop of your cock and go get a membership at planet fitness since they wanna be fags and talk shit

Steve i'm sorry i just don't see this, I've been training since i was 18...now 40 something yrs later my wrists are stronger than they have ever been, after using gloves all this time i wouldm't feel confortable going back bare handed. But! TO each his own.

I used to have the padded, fingerless gloves but didn't like not being able to feel the weight, which knocked my confidence and set me back a few kgs, my hands were rough from work so just got used to picking off the lumps, I've now gone over to builders gloves , like the thin rubber palm ones for two reason, the first being my job is now more office based so the lumps hurt and also I find the stickiness of the gloves Aids grip, so when doing hanging leg raises my I get a couple more as my sweaty palms don't slip, I have found people look at me a bit odd but I've also seen a few other guys wearing some now,
