Distal Bicep Rupture right arm

I'm a 44 year old avid power lifter and was doing some work around the farm and ruptured by distal bicep tendon. I had surgery one week ago. Dr. said things went well; however, I can not extend my fingers on that hand. He sent me to a neurologist that said my nerves that control fruction of the wrist and finger extension were bruised or slightly nicked or cut. Has anyone out here ever had this injury and experienced this problem? Can you gove me advice on the length of recovery and if I will ever have use of my right hand? :)

hey bro, i had a proximal bicep tendon (shoulder) detach in late nov.. had 8 titanium anchors put in. it sucks. the feeling came back in about 3 weeks for me, in a sling for 8 weeks, major suck. i started pt 2 weeks ago and have full range of motion and feeling. strength is going to take awhile but i will be 100% +. hang in there bro it will get better, just don't re-injury it

Thank you the words of incouargement. After lifting every morning for the past 25 years it has been very, very hard on me physically and mentially.....
:) :) :) :) :) :)

bigtbone....... Thank so much more taking the time to give me this information. My arm (biecep) is feeling great and I feel like I could lift something. Thanks for giving me the heads up not lift anything for 8 weeks. I do not want any set backs.......My big concern now is my hand. I am glad to hear from you that you feel i will get all of my use, feelings and fuction back. Right now I can do nothing with it but squezze a ball. I can not extend my fingers anyway,anyhow....I will ask my Doctor about the drug for the bone prevention (heterotopic bone). Did your injury effect your flying or your status in the Navy? I am a very big guy. 6'7" 305 pounds. I teach PE and I have always talked the talk and walked the walk......This is going to be very hard for me. My appreance has always been very important to me.......Thanks bigtbone please get back to me.......ps- typing with one hand sucks.................... :)

hey bibjim and bigtbone, i can relate to both of you. i'm pushing 4 months now since my surgery and its very discouraging. i have full feeling / range of motion but the mental anguish is the worst. my doc said i've healed at light speed but comfort when you still can't workout and your body weight goes down and your bodyfat goes up. i think anyone who is on this site cares alot about their appearance and working out is a part of their/our life. i go to the gym and workout one side, baby weight, but it makes me feel better about myself and staying in the gym atmosphere helps alot, especially when you have ball busting friends. ha stay strong and don't let it get to you, easier said than done, just be smart and let it heal. by the way, typing one handed and lefty sucks.

bushmills- Did you also have no uses of your hand, fingers after your surgey? If so, everything came back and you now have full use and feelings of that hand nad fingers???? Man if the answer is yes.......You are going to make my day!!!! I have been so worried I am going to be handy capped??????? Thanks for the suggestion of going to them gym and doing stuff with my left side and...........This web site is so great for stuff like this...........ps- next to working out I love playing the guitar..........It has been killing me not beingable to do either............If the doctor ever tells me no sex.....That will put me over the edge.......LOL
:)

fingers, hand, and right up my arm into my shoulder. was numb for what seemed forever. after the sling came off and i started pt, feeling came back and i pushed it as far as the doc & pt told me to. stretching to get full range of motion, i know guys who didn't stretch and they still don't have full range. if someone i don't know sees me, thay could never tell i'd had surgery.oh course, when i take my shirt off, one side is at least somewhat "toned" yeesh .... but hopefully i'll be able to start some type of resistance training soon so i can play catch up.
if the doc ever said no sex, shit just amputate the whole arm!

I was hoping you could give me so advice or words of incourgements? I had my distal bicep surgrey on 3/5/08 and the surgery went very well. Arm and bicep are doing great........Problem is I can not use my right hand due to a radial nerve palsey. This was caused when the radial arm nerve was moved, bumped. The doctor does not think it was cut based on the Nurolegy report. None of the Doctors will tell how long this radial nerve palsey problem will last. They all say it could be 5 weeks or 2 years............It has showed no sign of improvement.......I have to wear a hand splint so my fingers will flex when I move my wrist..........What sould I do? I want to use my hand and fingers again..........It is my right hand and I am right handed....................
