Diet for 16 year old?

anths

New member
Alright guys, I just found this site the other day so bare with me here. I am 16 years old and just started getting into lifting seriously. I am 5'8'' and around 190. I have begun to start eating right, sort of. I need to know what a good meal plan should be for someone my age. Keep in mind that I goto school from 8 - 3:30 so the only time i can actually eat a meal at school is lunch. Also, if someone would be nice enough to email me and coach me through setting up a good work out routine, I would be very greatful! From what I have read so far, you guys know your stuff, so help out a young guy who wants to get ripped for next spring break!

would that be alright for me?

And that is alright for a 16 year old kid? I cant figure out which diet to follow, there are a few on the post, some saying to eat more of this or less of that. Also is it necessary to mix the protein shake with water? I mix mine with skim milk, just for taste.

So long as you count in the calories from milk. Make sure that you check out the glycemic index: http://www.elitefitness.com/articles and eat only low gi food for the most part except after training where you will need a high gi(small amount).

Some will argue with the use of milk but just dont go overboard.

Also, there are many types of diets but just pick one and stick to it whatever it may be.

I agree with barnidge. Find a diet that you think you can stick with and do it. remember to keep your protein intake up and try and keep fat intake at a decent level. THe fat you do eat should be EFAs. Try making lunch for yourself. I work 9 hours aday and go to school so I know how you feel. I like to bake up pieces of boneless chicken then melt cheese on top and carry them around in my back pack and munch on them throughout the day. I also have been know to carry around tuna mixed with mayo and flax seed oil. Whatever you do, just do it right. I see too many people get all angry and say they cant do it when they werent ever doing it right in the first place.

so anything?

So is it necessary to eat 6 meals a day at small portions? Because i honestly can not eat during school, ive tried. I goto this semi-strict private school that is real bitchy about eating in school. So i can only do a solid breakfast/lunch/dinner/after workout snack. So what should i eat accounting for i only eat those 3 meals a day?

It is not preferable but you can do that. It is important to get protein every 3 hours to not waste away. So a snack is important.

eating 6 meals a day is took keep insulin levels regular and keep your metabolism at a constant rate. Just be smart about what you do eat and dont eat within 3 hours of going to bed. If you are hungry after school dont grab the doritos, make a tuna sandwich with wheat bread. or some rice. breakfast?? toss out the fruit loops, go with eggs and bacon with wheat toast. see what Im saying??? just be smart. and pack your own lunch for school. maybe even munch between classes.

Decide before you eat all the eggs and bacon whether you are aiming for a keto diet or a 40-30-30(p/c/f) Either is fine just stick with one or the other.
