Diabetes and steroids

Any diabetics here (type 1 or 2) experienced with steroids? I wonder, did you see changes in glycemic control? What diet would you suggest for someone with diabetes to get maximum growth? Thanks for the help!

I'm type 1 and could help you out if you want. Different compounds seemed to effect me in different ways, most of the time my insulin sensitivity was decreased on cycle, meaning i had to make up for it with a little more slin, but it was easily manageable. Evereyone will react a little different, during cycle i usually increase my glucose monitoring to about 8x a day, just cause you never know how you're going to react, especially when introducing new compounds...

Test, fina and winny seemed to not effect blood sugars too much. EQ increased insulin sensitivity but only SLIGHTLY. The only thing i've done so far that i won't do again is dbol, it was a roller coaster ride with my sugar levels, near impossible to control. Other than that, just keep a close eye on it at all times...

As for diet, it makes a big difference depending on what kind of insulin you're using. When i was on 2 shots a day, R and NPH, the gains weren't even close to as good as compared to when i switched over to humalog 6-8x a day with NPH before bed. I shoot humalog prior to every meal and it's given me much more flexability with meal timimg, etc...Keep protein high, carbs moderate, and low fats is the best that i've found to adding mass...

There's so much to write tho so if you have many specific questions feel free to mail me...

One more thing, especially being a diabetic, make sure to keep bloating as little as possible. I would recommend the use of liquidex in every stack, at a dosage of 1mg ED...

I have a question regarding your (marx) use of Humalog before meals. I was under the impression that Humulog would react too quickly to maximize "distribution" of the meal if taken beforehand. I have been taking Humulin R before meals thinking that by the time the food arrived into the small intestine and began being absorbed the insulin would kick in. I thought that if I took Humalog before the meal that it would peak before the meal even left the stomach. Is this invalid? If so, please elaborate.

Humalog doesn't actually peak until the 1.5-2 hour mark, although it starts lowering your blood sugars within minutes and should be shot no more than 15min prior to mealtime. Humulin R on the other hand peaks around the 3-4hour mark, and has to be shot about 30min prior to a meal if done correctly. Being diabetic and trying to get in 6 or more large meals a day, the humalog is much more flexible for me. I don't have to worry about overlap in insulin as i would with R, due to the length it stays actice in your system. Way too many ups and downs and lows with R is what i found when trying to shoot it more than 3x a day. As for humalog peaking to early, it's all relative to your blood sugar levels. Your blood sugars will rise almost immediately within a few minutes of eating or drinking something, depending on what it is. I time my shots based on stable blood sugar levels, and i would think this would correspond correctly with maximizing distribution of the meal...

I'm not sure if that's what you were really asking, but hopefully that helps out...

Yes, that was what I was looking for, thanks.

I'd also be interested in sk* question involing your personal meal planning and insulin use.

marx,

Can you please tell me your meal plan and how much insulin and what type you shoot and when? I am mostly curious on the amounts.

Thanks. :)

Sure bro, here's an example of one of my days, but remember, these numbers are not fixed, they vary depending on my blood sugar level at the time of injections...

(8:00 am) Meal 1 - 14 units Humalog
50g protein shake
2/3 cup Oatmeal

(11:00 am) Meal 2 - 10 units Humalog
1 1/2 chicken breast
1 cup rice

(2:00 pm) Meal 3 - 8 units Humalog
Chicken sandwich (2 chicken breats)

(4:00 pm) Meal 4 - 10 units Humalog (Post Workout)
50g protein shake
75g maldextrose

(5:00 pm) Meal 5 - 8 units Humalog (less slin taken due to the overlap of the previous shot, due to this meal being eaten 1 hour after last shot)
14oz steak
2 potatoes

(8:00 pm) Meal 6 - 12 units Humalog
2 cans tuna
3 slices of bread

(11:00 pm) Meal 7 - 12 units Humalog / 32 units NPH (sometimes NPH is taken separetly, i shoot it about 2 hours before bedtime)
50g Protein Shake
1 Bagel

As you can see insulin sensitivity at least for me is greatest in the afternoon, and these numbers also vary depending on if i will be exercising due to the fact the exercise will help lower blood sugar as well. I usually try to get in at least 7 mealtimes, but it will usually range between 6 and 8...
