Depo question...

My wife has been on depo for a while now. The strange thing is that she had NO side effects until she had been on it for about 2 -2.5 years.
At that point there was loss of sex drive, she gets irritated / upset a lot easier and there was some weight gain.

Is it possible for side effects to take that long to show up ?

The thing that upset her the most was loss of sex drive(I'm not diggin' it much either :( ). We both did some research and she's trying dong quai and damiana and will see if that helps any.

We just want to know if the depo might actually be the root of the problems.

In my opnion Depo is the devil. I woul never recomend it to someone. I had a super high sex drive before I went on it. I got on it and it was dead. After I went off it came back some what but never to what it used to be!
Weight gain also pissed me off didn't put on much however it was next to impossible to loose weight on it. If you don't plain on having kids for the next while the IUD is the way to go.

My mom basically made me start it when I was 15 because she had gotten pregant at an early age and she knew I had become active. I hated it. I bled probably 15-20 days a month.

Loss of sex drive I know is a common side effect of Provera. Its crap and its sounds like she did really well on it to go that long with no noticeable side effects. And even if she stops it and her symptoms persist it could still be the Provera since it takes so damn long to get out of your system. After over 2 years on hormones she really should take a break from them for a while. You guys might just use contraceptive creams, sponges, or condoms for a while.

Yeah, we talked earlier this morning about not getting her next shot, just to see if it she felt better without it. About how long might it take for her hormones to level back out?

This is probably not what you want to hear but it can take up to a year for them to balance out.

I agree with Dayna. It is the devil. Get her off of it. The sooner she is off, the sooner she will go back to the way she was. I was on it about 3 years ago and I am still not back to where I was before hand. And I was only on it for 3 shots worth...

Good luck.

Thanks y'all. I just want her to be ok, no matter how long it takes. I think after she's been off the shot for a while, she'll gradually feel better.

As for the BC thing....I'm sure we'll figure something out. :)

Get her off the shot! I only took three shots and I gained almost 20lbs on it and another 15 even once I got off it! I was severely depressed and walking 6 miles a day on the treadmill (crying the entire way). I was an absolute pycho on the Depo shot, and Im positive my husband would agree. That stuff almost ruined my marriage! It shuts down your lymphatic system too! Ive read a lot about it and there are studies going on that say the shot causes permanent PSYCHOSIS! In my opinion she wont ever just level out on that stuff. Get her away from the hormones if possible. I have an IUD now and I absolutely love it. It cost less than $400 and you never have to mess with it for up to 10 years! You of course can have it removed whenever you decide too. It hurt a little when the doctor put it in but well worth it. IF she chooses to stick with the shot it will only get worse. Im shocked anyone could handle it for 2 years without negative side effects.
