deep tissue massage

has anyone ever experimented with deep tissue massage for recovery purposes? i would be interested in hearing about those experiences. i hear its quite painful but if it works well i'm game.

I have deep tissue massage every other week. I think it's very beneficial to flush the toxins and assorted knots from the muscles. My favorite part is hamstrings. There are some pressure points there where the pain hurts SO good - sometimes I'll see bright lights. Then all of a sudden it's like I've been injected with a drug because I get REALLY relaxed and sometimes fall asleep or a least float.

I've finally found a great therapist who knows exactly my pain threshold and pushes just a little beyond - really gives me my $$$ worth - SWEET PAIN!!! :p Most are too chicken. Nothing worse than a wimpy massage.

I've had one once. Only once cuz it's very expensive. So I can't say if it really helped with recovery. I did feel totally relaxed afterwards.

Yes, there is some pain, but definitely sweet pain. I can't say how awful it was or not cuz I, uh, kinda like pain! The therapist who did my massage is a really good friend of mine who also sees the light of how pain can be a good thing - so he wasn't afraid to push my threshold. I don't think the experience would have been anywhere near so relaxing if I didn't know him well. I don't think I could get so relaxed with some stranger massaging my glutes & pecs. OK, maybe I"m a little uptight - but it was much better that he's a good friend.
