Deadlifts and Sciatic nerves

So, I'm doing dead lifts yesterday, and I ramp the weight up to, oh 405 lbs :chomp: and my glutes pump up so much that it sends my pre-existing sciatica problems through the roof. The pressure from the pump I got in my upper glutes/lower back actually squeezed my sciatic nerve and made it hurt like a bitch, and I'm not on any type of N02 supplementation. It went away after the pump went away as well, but it hurt like a real bitch for a few minutes.

Just curious to see if anybody else has had this happen. I found this to be very interesting.

sometimes when i deadlift heavy i feel a very uncomfortable pressure (bone-grinding almost) right at the outermost part of my hip-bone. When this happens i assume i shouldn't be going so heavy and drop weights.

Yeah, grinding is bad. Not sure what that could possibly be, but damn. I do 4 plates on each side and all I get is a sore ass and glutes the next day with minor tiredness in the lower back. Maybe you need to improve on your technique?

that sounds like early onset piriformis, you need to stretch the shit out the glutes and hips to make sure it doesnt become chronic.

your glutes alone cant give you sciaticva

I have a herniated disk. I guess I should have thrown that in there as it is an important piece of info. I have had issues with sciatica since my sophomore year in high school, like 8 years ago. My guess is that the back and glutes pumped and compressed the lumbar which in turn agitated the nerve. Maybe it was just from doing the excercise itself, seeing as you do hold a lot of weight doing deads.
