deadlift

i personally have never been able to pull off deads on leg day. usually after squats and whatever else i'm doing (hacks, leg press, etc) i'm too exhausted to think about hitting deads. sometimes it's hard enough to just do calves to finish up.
i do them either on back day or right now i have them(doing stiff legged) on a separate day for hams/traps.
i am not a big advocate of doing two core exercises in the same workout. i like to get every bit i can out of each of the big three, thus give them each their own separate day and always start my workout with them.

Thanks for the reply
I actually was wanting to use them as an alternate to squats on every other leg day. I train legs twice a week. I just wasn't sure if they were more of a core leg exercise or a back and trap exercise?

How much they hit back or legs depends on how you perform them. You will always hit hams, glutes or lower back hard, but by accentuating the bend in you knees to could work your quads a bit harder, although I don’t think they are a good substitute for more traditional leg movements.

I guess if you work out twice a week you may have to compromise a little, and in that case, I could see the benefits of adding Deadlifts every other week as a positive move.

I alternate between front squats and deads on my lower body days. My DL form focuses in on glutes/hams, then I'll either do heavy lunges or split squats to hit my entire leg without bringing into play my lower back.

When I front squat, I'll also do RDLs or GMs to target my hams/glutes.

Nevermind, I just did 10 sets of 8 reps and i was most sore in my glutes + hams so deadlifts go on leg day, the leg day I dont Squat.

blah, because I have martial arts on monday and wednesday, I have to do leg training on thursday and back on friday. I can't do them before that because I can't have my legs or back being sore for karate or else I can barely kick or do whatever we need to do. :( I hope that isn't effecting my deadlifting too much.
