Deadlift problem

Ok heres the deal I justed started doing deads and now I know why I never did them. I have long ass legs and I seem to get a pain in my lower back when doing them? I cant seem to get my back straight. I have to round my back at the bottom of the lift. I read before of guys with long legs using a different kind of bar, but cant rember what?

I'm 6'4" and I had a similar problem when I first started. It is all in the form. I got my form down and now I have no pain.

Start with just the 45lb bar and work your form till it is like a reflex. If you are doing SLDL's make sure you really stick out your but. Otherwise you end up rounding your back which is when you get the pain.

Do you use a sumo or conventional stance? How tall are you?

conventional stance and I'm 6'1". I know the form just at the bottom of the lift I have to drag the bar across my legs to try to keep my back straight.

Are you doing deads for a back exercise, or do you plan to compete in p'lifting? If you ever plan on competing, I would suggest trying a sumo stance for deadlifting. It will shorten your range of motion. I find that I have trouble getting down to the bar correctly when I do conventional, and I can stay much more vertical doing sumo. It does take a little more hip flexibility though. If you stick with conventional then I would suggest lowering the weight and practicing your form until you get it perfect. Then up the weight, keeping the good form.

Good luck training! :D

try sumo, that was my problem (im 6'5")
the difference is that I feel like I have to use my quads and hips more and lower back less
give it a try, I like it

yeah tried that with and without. Damn long legs and arms suck for lifting:(

thats actually not true. you have bigger leavers to pull and push with. it may take hard work and you may take longer to get big or fill out.........but when you do the taller guy will always look bigger and be stronger than the small guy.

long arms, long legs, and a short torso are the best combination for deadlifting.

make your back and hams strong........... if your back cant maintain being straight, you may not be flexible enough in your hamstrings........... a problem i have.

i hope this helps.
