Deadlift pause

I guess what I should of said was should you let the weight hit the floor, or can you do it on a platform so when you are at the bottom of the lift it doesn't hit the floor.
 
I pause on both the bottom and top. At the top i lock out for a sec, this is how powerlifters do it to make it count in a competition. I pause at the bottom so the momentum from the plates hitting the floor doesn't help me. Try to get as much tension as possible...
 
i pause about 1 second at the top of the lift like lord_suston said. on the way down i tap the weights on the ground as lightly as i can and head back up, so i do have some momentum working in my favor, but by no means am i the retard in the gym bouncing the shit off the ground like a basketball. i focus on moving very slowly when i'm lowering the weight and then driving up.
 
You should always make sure you lock out at the top of each rep, also when I'm going heavy I pause at the bottom of each one to reset my form.

Absolutely true - all work sets should be done in this fashion. Each rep is separte and should be deweighted on the ground and reset.

This is why the exercise is called the deadlift - the weight is dead on the ground. If the bar is not compeltely deweighted you are skipping a critical portion of the lift (like squating 1/2 way down) and cheating yourself.

I;ve seen so many guys struggle with the first rep and then rapid fire the next 8 with just a slight touch not even bouncing. You have to ask yourself what it was about that first rep that was so hard? Lack of momentum. Dead weight.
 
you build the best explosive strength by going from nothing (ie the when the weight is on the ground) to a positive motion.

i try to encorporate as much as this as possilbe into my routine......... like box squats, floor press , board press, rack lockouts, rows, deadlifts........... anything were i can set it down on the negative and explode from nothing to the positive.
