Day Off

No, but you should stick to a clean diet... and actually on your off days I think you would actually reduce the amount of calories consumed slightly, unless you want to get fat.

...

don't pig out, but don't reduce calories either. your days off are for recovery and the extra food will help your body to recover.

please take this advice and not the post above me, as your metabolism will be elevated and I assure you eating the same as your workout days (minus the shake) will not make you get fat..

also, working out 6 days a week is not a good thing, I will NEVER workout more than 4 days a week and normally no more than 3. There is such a thing as overtraining, but I hope you are eating enough to compensate for the abuse you put on yourself..

Errr, yeah take his advice. I was just thinking that you use less energy on days off, but I didn't take the body's rebuilding muscle effect into my calculations.

I'm confused on this point - why not apply the usual rule of 10-20% above maintainance on the off days.

True, you should eat above maintenance on the non-exercise day, but if your maintenance is say 3500, but approx 1000 was due to exercise, then consuming 4000 calories every day seems like an incredible calorie surplus on the non-exercise day. Wouldn't in this case just 10-20% above the 2500 maintenance for the non-exercise day be fine?

Thats what I was originally thinking, but I don't know. I basically just eat when hungry although now I'm getting better at monitoring my food intake.

Your body is recovering on the days off - you can use your own judgement onto how much food you should intake, as everyone is different. I have a rather slow metabolism and if I were bulking on 4,000 calories, I would still eat those 4,000 calories on my off days in order to keep growing..
