Daisy's Diet

gypsygrl, i've looked over the diet that you emailed me...everything looks great...i do have one question though...is that enough calories?? i mean, it seems really low for an active person...maybe i'm wrong...i have been trying to get ~1500 cals/day...maybe i'm eating too many? i just know that when i drop my cals (even while eating a lot of protein) i tend to lose a few pounds but it seems to be all muscle...i will lose weight but i end up feeling softer....

Diet is so individual. Use the diet as a base and add/subtract as necessary. If you know you can't take in so low cals without losing muscle, then DON'T drop your cals that low.

My diet was low in cals - too low - but I also know my body and know I don't lose muscle easily. Now, my diet is low in cals, but I am taking Var to help keep ALL my muscle mass.

Use the diet as food choices and a basic outline. Refine for what you know about YOUR body. :)

I agree with Daisy, I've been experimenting with diet and exercise for almost 10 years now, and the low calorie thing works for me. I actually made this spreadsheet for a few friends and put them at slightly higher calories then I eat. It depends on how much you weigh, your body fat, etc. I, like Daisy, keep muscle easily too. When I started this diet I weighed 123, now I'm 114 so I have to keep the cals pretty low to keep this going... But by all means - 1500 cals a day seems to be the average for weight loss in a normal female. I forgot to mention before that the protein shake I used was BodyTech from the Vitamin Shop. It's sweetened with Splenda, and is really cheap :) Only $17 for a giant barrell.

THANK YOU!!

This diet is perfect for me. Your suggestions are do brillian. I never thought of any of that. The suggestion to have the eggs ready in the morning is just pure genius!!!!

BIG QUESTION!!!!

Can you actually have a cheat day on this diet? What does that mean exactly? Does that mean I can eat WHATEVER I want, or should I stick with a calorie guideline? Can you give me some examples of what you eat for you cheat day?

I am sooooooo excited about this diet. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

Cheat Days.....

Cheat Days are really 'Sanity Days' (I think W6 coined this phrase). Yes, metabolically, your body NEEDS cheat days (or carb-up days, refeed days) - but honestly, a true CHEAT DAY is for your sanity. Dieting clean is NOT easy. In fact, it plain sucks. I feel better physically when eating clean - but mentally it is hard.

So use Cheat Days to mentally have a break. When I went through my "transformation" my cheat days were all out piggy fests. I cannot even fathom how many calories I injested. it would probably make me cry. :) :chomp: BUT, keep in mind the more you cheat, and the more out of control your cheat days are, the longer it will take to reach your goal. If I had reigned in my cheat days, it might have taken me less time to lose weight. Who knows. Hindsight is 20/20.

My cheat days now will be MUCH different. For the next couple weeks I am going to cheat for the first 8 hours of Sunday ONLY. Then it is clean foods. Plus, my cheat foods will be primarily cleaner carbs. IF I need it (sanity break) I will cheat with a little bit of crap. :)

Soon I will go to one cheat meal (more a carb up meal), then none. But this is for a contest. (yikes....I'm scared!)

If I were just dieting, I would say cheat for the first 8 hours of the day, but finish the day eating clean. Eat whatever will help keep your sanity. You might find that once results start, you won't find cheating so desireable.

Great advice!

I find, now that I'm not eating a lot of sugars, that when I do go ahead and get stupid, I physically feel like crap afterwards, like a hangover.

This is so perfect for me. Thank you so much for all of the info. I'm so excited about starting!!! I think one cheat day a week is a great idea.....

I was doing really well for 2 weeks straight. One day last week my emotions got the best of me and I ate a lot of crap. I had frozen pizza and some junky entemans stuff. Well, I felt so bad that it escalated into 4 days of not caring. Now I'm trying to get myself back on this horse. With this diet I think I can do it. I am going through a very emotional time right now and it's really hard for me to stick to anything. I'm an emotional eater.

I took some first steps today.....

I bought a journal to track my food and also write down what I may be feeling that day. I also stocked my fridge with all the good stuff!!

Wish me luck!

Good luck!

For emotional eaters, probably the biggest, best thing you can do is to change your relationship with food. Easier said than done, I know, but it's what's necessary for your healthful eating to be sustainable. Instead of listening to your emotions (when they're telling you that you'd really feel better after eating straight out of the ice cream bucket), listen to your body, which will tell you what it needs.

I had this geometry teacher in Jr. High that had the most incredible relationship with food. He was totally one of those math/science freaks who see the world in terms of facts and figures. To him, food was ONLY fuel for his body. I once saw him eat mixed vegetables for lunch, straight out of the can. He rode his bike to school on nice days, and was the soccer coach, too. He was very fit.

I'm not anywhere near that unemotional about my eating, but I'm much better now about giving my body what it needs than I used to be.
