Dairy=The Worst Shit that you can Eat?

I was talking to my uncle on the phone...who has expertise beyond my own in terms of nutrition. However, since he is 60ish, he is obviously not eating like we are (to gain muscle). But he did tell me to stay away from dairy--man is the only animal that drinks another animal's milk. He also told me that Whey Protein is inferior to Soy, since Whey is dairy-based. What is everybody's thoughts on this?

some of the healthiest people in the world have a high dairy diet. And your uncle in his 60's should be consuming a lot of dairy for the benefits of calcium. Bodybuilders for decades have consumed large amounts of milk. Milk's protein is 80% cassein and 20% whey. Whey is in no way inferrior to soy in any way. Check out Proteinfactory.com look up whey. There's lots of research on soy out there, some say it's good some say it's bad. Some say it can increase estrogen levels, some say it decreases males testosterone levels. There is not 1 shred of news claiming whey is bad. In fact Whey is considered supperior to soy. In my opinion Whey is awesome post workout shake. Soy could be good possibly when combined w/ cassein as a before bed shake. But to say dairy is bad? What's the research behind that?

One thing you'll have to admit in this business is research is tops. Don't go by what others "say" so much and go more by what has been proven.

Hehe well said. On top of that my two elderly friends and neighbors (married, aged 94 and 96) have drunk full fat milk and eaten full fat cheese every day of their lives (except when Ken was "in the war"). They also have happy hour every day of the year, and twice on Sundays. All things in moderation they will both tell ya. However if you have a dairy allergy then obviously it will not be good for you to consume.

I agree with you all. However I have read that dairy products make you llok flat and can make you hold some water. Therefore you should stay away from it precontest. Any info on that?

On the subject of listening to research...make sure you know your sources. Of course protein factory is going to explain the benefits of whey protein--they sell the stuff. It is fairly easy to get a study to say what you want, especially when it is difficult to conduct truly controlled experiments on HUMANS. It is interesting--everyone who sells protein manages to find studies that suggest you eat a ton of it, and that their particular type is the best.

By the same token, who says you need a ton of grains, and a pathetic amount of protein? The government, who is trying to boost the agricultural industry. They claim that you don't need to eat a lot of protein to lose fat, just eat their farmer's fat-free grains. Most bodybuilders, however, who get to about as low bodyfat as is humanly possible, know better than that.

I think it is better to read these posts--these guys have tried different diets, supplements, etc, and know what has or has not worked for them. And most of them seem to notice that whey and other milk-based proteins are beneficial. But not becasue protein factory said so.

Someone said there wasn't a shred of news which said whey was bad....

.... I've read more than more than a shred. It depends where you look, and who's writing the article....

A company that sells whey will show you a different study than a company that sells soy.

The fact that humans are the only animals that drink another animal's milk.... well, yeah. But that's only because it's not socially acceptable to continue drinking human milk after a certain age. Something about an enzyme that makes you immune to the benefits after a certain age too. But cows milk is similiar in molecular makeup, and has lots of nutritional benefits.... the vitamins and minerals, the protein, the calcium.... I think it's good stuff.

But I think soy is good too. Like the old folks said.... everything in moderation.

2% cottage cheese is the shit;) if u bulking or cutting.......dont care about the rest of ya ,hate on milk and crap no matter wha this cottage cheese good

Dairy is NOT the best source of calcium by any stretch of the imagination. Milk has pasteurized blood, pus, viruses, & antibiotics in it due to over used utters that are hooked up to machines all day. Plus hormones so that the cow is able to constantly produce the shit. I have actually heard that chocolate milk is made from the milk that is most discolored by all that stuff. I'm not sure if that is true but I personally believe it.

Hey there Natural One....you should splash out a little and buy some certified organic, unpastuerized stuff.

See? Natural One, I have to thank you! I have a dairy addiction I think you've just cured.

I've thought about the other species thing, I just replied with that theory in a milk = fat thread.

I think it makes sense that it's a great growth inducing substance, considering it's technically baby food.

This is like the first time I saw the Simpson's episode where Homer discovered Springfield's elementary schools were getting its milk from rats in the mafia's backroom---i didnt drink milk for weeks!

the fact that your uncle believes whey is inferior to soy
suggests that you should not ask his opion when it comes to
bodybuilding diets, I love my mom but she dosent know shit
about building muscle even though she has been around for a
couple hundred years.

take a look at most competing bodybuilders chances are you
will find very little soy in their diets

I use soy protein as opposed to whey because I'm lactose intolerant and also because it contains isoflavs, good for women.

I don't know if it is unhealthy for you but......

I quit drinking milk, and started using soy and rice drinks
well becauce.....

MY BUTTCHEEKS KEPT EXPLODING!!!!!!!!

and let me tell you, my roomate didn't appreciate
the sudden earthquakes at 4 AM....
